Saving e-mail messages

Hi all,

I use Opera e-mail client for my professional account. I would like to save single e-mail messages and forward them to colleagues. Ideally, they should be saved in html format...or even in .eml or any other format compatible with MS Office software. Unfortunately, it seems to be only possible to save e-mails in mbs files...

Opera 11.51
Windows 7 Professional 64
Professional e-mail account (university)
IMAP

Save the message as an mbs file (with ctrl + s ). Then, compose a new message and attach the mbs file. Opera will add the mbs file as an attachment with a mime type of application/mime which other clients (good, modern ones at least) will recognize as an embedded/nested message that you can open and view.

An mbs file represents the source of the message. It's just like what you see when you view the source of a message you receive (besides a few lines). This is the perfect and standard format to save in and makes a lot of sense.

Now, an mbs file is a lot like an eml file except that an mbs file has a "From " line on the first line. And, an mbs file can contain more than one messages while an eml file should not. If you edit the mbs file and remove the "From " line, save your changes and rename the file to have an .eml extension and attach the file to a new message, Outlook should recognize it as an embedded email that you can open.

Outlook isn't a good mail client to test with though. Its standards support is pretty lousy.

Hi burnout and thanks.

I had already done the attachment thing and it just does not work. A colleague of mine opened the attachment in MS Outlook 2007 and it did not recognize the attachment and even if force to open with MS Outlook (Open with...) it did not manage.
Conversely, the editing and renaming to .eml works splendidly (although it is not possible to convert to .msg which I think is the basic type for MS Outlook). Fortunately I do not have to save and attach too many e-mail messages...then I can edit and rename all of them.
However, I still think that this should be a basic function that should be by far easier in Opera. Any other option?

If you want the attached eml file to be sent the same way Outlook/Outlook Express does it, goto "ctrl + F12 -> advanced -> downloads. Uncheck "hide file types opened by Opera", find message/rfc822 and edit it. Add ",eml" after "mime" and ok out etc.

If Opera ever gets support for a "right-click -> forward as attachment" option, Opera would probably create the attachment as a message/rfc822 part like other clients. However, manually attaching an mbs or .mime file would probably still be sent as an application/mime attachment, so don't expect that part to change. I don't think many would be against saving as .eml as an option or having .eml listed in messages/rfc822 by default.
