Opera x64? (Firefox x64 is coming and shows a 10% speed increase)
With Firefox x64 for Windows in a few months, early Peacekeeper tests show a 10% speed increase for x64 over the equivalent x32. There's no reason not to expect similar speed increases would apply to Opera too.I hope Opera is doing something urgently about this on their side. Will x64 bit versions exist on that kind of timescale for Opera Windows to compete?

Not so. There's a huge difference between a user petition thread, and Opera Software ASA having data supporting treating x64 for Windows with urgency. In the past a major objection was "You don't need the extra memory so there's no gain from it". This thread shows that's no longer a good assumption:
- It shows that a reputable test (Peacekeeper) reveals a 10% speed increase in an upcoming version of Firefox which is apparently due only to x64 v x32. In the absence of other evidence it's quite reasonable to assume Opera x64 could be 10% faster than Opera x32 as well. So the old argument "why do you need it, it won't do anything" is probably invalid.
- It shows that comparable and directly competing browsers (ie platform-agnostic, feature-rich, extensible, configurable, independent, fast) are well on the way to 64 bit releases for Windows, and have already brought out stable fast x64 versions of upcoming releases. Firefox 8 is due to be released in a few months, apparently in x32 and x64 versions.
- This situation is a fairly strong reason to move on Opera Windows 64 bit, if it hasn't been treated with urgency already.
That a user petition also exists dating back to 2005 isn't an issue.

There has been an internal test build, but as it requires 64-bit plug-ins it isn't very useful yet. Flash has indicated they will release a 64-bit version in October, little point in having 64-bit Opera before then. I haven't heard anything from other plug-in vendors yet.

I'm not sure what reality you're in, but a request to bring in x64 due to memory limitation issues is not "a duplicate" of Peacekeeper stats on x64 v x32 speeds in the competition.
If you want to look for a post comparing x64 and x32 speeds and advocate searching the forum, do it properly before replying incorrectly. Alternatively, respond on the actual issue: whether a speed increases of 10% obtained just by compiling x64 v x32 by a direct competing browser might be relevant to Opera and reason to treat x64 urgently.
Opera has "the fastest browser on the planet" as one of its well known selling points. But 10% is a big difference and recent stats show others not too far behind, so asking if Opera is taking note of this as an important piece of data in the battle to stay ahead, is relevant.

Its just a repeat of the request to provide an x64 version of Opera for Windows.
