What a headache opening .jpg attachment using open by opera

Hi All,

Each time when a new copy of Opera is installed, I have a problem.
Email attachment I received with normal .jpg when click, opera opens in new tab with SYBMOLS., not pics.

I choose Preference, download, looking at the MIME .jpg, the plug in is blank.
I more likely to have opera open for me (M2) open for me all.jpg.
Is there way I can download 'just the plug in' from some where ?

I have been with Opera 8+ years & I have went into this MIME page lots & lots of time and playing with plugin. However, each time I end up with call for help. Is that my problem or the plug in is so diffcult in Opera ? Everytime is the .jpg making me mad. I like to have opera open for me as soon as I click the attachment.

Opera doesn't need a plugin to display jpeg files. It should just work. Perhaps the attachment doesn't have the right mime type in the content-type header.

View source of the messages. What content-type do the attachments have?

What about filenames? Do attachments with filenames with no spaces and only ascii characters work fine?

Open the message. Right-click and choose "view all headers and message".

You should see something like this:

Content-Type: image/jpeg; name="test.jpg"
Content-Disposition: attachment; filename="test.jpg"
Content-Transfer-Encoding: Base64

for each jpg attachment.

If the content-type isn't image/jpeg or image/jpg or it's not base64 for the transfer-encoding, then that's the problem.

image/jpeg and image/jgp in Opera should be set to "open with opera" by default. They should both have jpeg, jpe, jpg for their extension list.

You were right and I tried one .jpg attachment in normal file name without space.
It open within opera without problem.

Why can't opera open .jpg with file name has space in it ?

Whatever is generating these email messages and attaching the pics is using the wrong mime type of "text/plain". That's why they display as text. It seems the program you're using (or whoever) gets the mime type wrong when the file has spaces in it or something.

But, need to see the headers for the pic that doesn't have any spaces in its filename (the one you said that worked ok). Unless that's ATT18762.jpg and image002.jpg that you were talking about that work fine.

Opera has no problems with spaces in filenames itself.
