How to change searchbar behavior?

Is there a way to change the searchbar behavior? I recently switched to opera from firefox and would like to change it to match firefox.

In ff you could select your search engine type in the search term and then hit enter to execute it. In opera if you select your search engine from the drop down it automatically searches for whatever was already typed there.

Also is there a way to make ctrl+up arrow or down arrow change the search engine if the cursor is in the search bar?

Right. After you've input your search term and selected your search engine Opera hits the Enter key for you while in FF you have to do that manually. I can't see what makes the FF solution superior. But you could select your search engine first, then input the search term. In this case FF and Opera would behave the same.

Why? Try up and down arrows (without ctrl).
