E-Mail/Feed-List with Speeddial combined
Hey,I like Opera very much because of the integrated Feedreader (=M2) and of course the browsing. Therefor I have a Feed-Tab pinned, where all my Feeds are listed on the left side and i can read them easily on the right side. But when I want look for something other (open an URL or look, if something change on Facebook (with Speed-Dial-extension)), I have to open a new Speed Dial Tab.
My suggestion:
Combine both Tabs for example in following way:
Left side - normal Speed Dial (~70% of width)
Right side - overview of the new Feeds / Email
If no Feed / Mail is selected you will see the Speed Dial. If you select one, the Speed Dial will disappear and on this area the hole Message can be seen. So there will be a nice overview for the everyday use.
Of course, this kind of panel should be optional, respectively hideable with a small button.
In my opinion M2 would improve this way very much, because it will get a much famous position in Opera.
An other possibility would be, that you see the real Feed overview in a normal panel (not the author like right now). But in my case I use the Panel mostly for my bookmarks and so I don`t want to change the panel all the time.
What do you say?
"Shift + F12 -> panels -> show panel toggle at edge of window" (or use F4 or use the button at the very left of the status bar). Optionally, set panel placement to the right.
Then, open the panel list, select the mail panel and resize it to the width you want. And, put the feeds access point up top in the mail panel if you want. Then, either leave the panel list open with the mail panel selected or show/hide the panel list with the toggle strip whenever you want.
Then, you'll have your feed list on one side and speeddial on the other. And, when you click a certain feed, it'll open a message list for that feed.
Have you been using "Menu -> Feeds-> Read Feeds" instead of the mail panel to get to feeds or something (before you pined the feed tab)?

Actually I only use "Menu -> Feeds-> Read Feeds" as Tab because I can quickly read all the Feeds there. In my opinion every other way is not very useable for the everyday use.
The way you describe would be: open panel - eventually switch to mail - click at ONE topic - click at feed-name
My wish: open Speed Dial with build in "Read Feeds"- see the feed-name and click on it
On my computer Opera is nearly running always. So, when you switch to Opera to open an URL/search there are mostly two cases:
- If the Feed-list is tabbed you have to open a new Tab instead of writing instantly. When you do this 20 times a day its not so funny. But you are able to see all the news/emails which are new and can decide if you want to check them now or later.
- Speed Dial is open - perfect... but hey, whats new in the world... OK open the Feed tab...
In my opinion M2 is very nice to use, but most of the Opera user do not know that because it has no famous position.

I use mail client and feeds (M2) on regular basis, & i strongly disagree with you, because i use single key shortcuts for almost every task. I just have to press R for what you do with "Menu -> Feeds-> Read Feeds".
If you know how to set custom keyboard shortcuts, the code for this is as follow:

A shortcut is also a good possibility... maybe the smarter one (if you like shortcuts).
But I think you do not get the point:
I would like to see a starting page, where I have an overview over all Opera application. M2 in an dynamic way, like I explained above. You can also extend it with Opera Unite etc. to list running programs. And of course Speed Dial with the URL-Bar for accessing the web.
Most of a big screen is at the Speed Dial page empty. Even on my notebook, there is enough place for additional information.
Surely, you have to handle it in an decent way, do not overload it for the standard user... But if somebody use M2, he will get the additional information on Speed Dial.

Your point has weight. But opera checks for emails after start-up and not before it. Therefore in all cases you will have to click or use a shortcut at least once, which is what you can already do.

I want to see this feature not because of the startup. My Opera is nearly always running. If I do not use it, I still have the feed-tab open. And here is the problem:
This is good, when a new feed is coming in (every 10min). But when I switch to Opera to open a new site, I have to open Speeddial. And this happens quite some time.
