Socket or HTTP function Mini 6.1?

Hi!

Please back feature Socket and HTTP selection! The wifi router does not pass the connection!

Thanks!

Would be nice, one of the issues that need attending to. Have not been able to update since goodness knows when! Could not use 6.1.

I'm having the same problem now. When I used to have the option to switch between HTTP and Socket there was always a problem when using socket. Initial connection worked and I can browse for a few minutes but then it stops working and I have to close and reopen the connection. To get around this I always used HTTP. Updating to the latest version (6.1.26266 Symbian running on a Nokia N8 (T-Mobile UK)) I didn't have any problems. I'm assuming Opera just used the settings from the previous versions and kept using my HTTP setting even though this option had been removed.

Now I've had to format my phone after a firmware upgrade and the fresh install of the latest Opera Mini seems to be displaying the same connection issues as when I used to choose Socket.

The one thing I'm not sure about though is that before I formatted my phone I had Opera Mini as the only app using my phone providers connection and everything else using WLAN (just don't like my web browsing going through my works connection.) However there was always an app called "messaging" that would refuse to use anything other than the 3g connection. This messaging app now uses the system default as it should. Could this "messaging" app have been keeping the Socket connection open so Opera Mini could use it without these apparent time out issues?

And just ignore everything I've just said (typed). Tried installing the Java version (5.1 from the permanent links thread) and it worked fine. Uninstalled both versions on my phone and reinstalled 6.1.26266 Symbian deciding to just use whatever WLAN is available to me. Ran a quick check to see if it would work over 3g and it does. No problems so far at all so I'll keep using it and update you if there's any change.

Back to lurking I go.

Looks like I spoke too soon. Opera Mini only works for me if there is another program using the same connection.
