Keyboard Shortcuts Help
Hello, and thanks in advance for any help. Sometimes when I'm typing a comment at a website I accidentally make a combination of keystrokes that sends me backward a page (or more), thus forcing me to retype the comment after returning forward a page (or more). This can be quite frustrating. When I was using version 11.50 I went to "Tools/Preferences/Advanced/Shortcuts/Keyboard setup" and deleted every single shortcut, thinking that this would solve the problem. Unfortunately this worked too well: it solved the problem but I also lost the use of the "backspace" and "delete" keys while I was typing words
. Because there were so many categories (Application, Browser Window, Mail Window, etc.) under "Edit keyboard setup" that I didn't fully understand, and since this accidental keystroke combination didn't happen very often, I learned to live with it (and to type more carefully). However, now that I've upgraded to version 11.51 this seems to happen much more frequently. So I revisited "Tools/Preferences/Advanced/Shortcuts/Keyboard setup" determined to delete every keyboard shortcut except whichever lets me use my keyboard to actually type words. Sadly, in version 11.51 I'm unable to save my edited keyboard setup. In 11.50 when I edited and saved the keyboard setup then returned to re-edit it, the categories that I'd previously edited were no longer followed by "(defaults)"; however, in 11.51 any category that I've (supposedly) edited is still followed by "(defaults)" if I return to re-edit it. I never use keyboard shortcuts and would very much like to delete every single one while preserving the use of all the keys on my keyboard while using it to type words. Please, can anyone point me to a solution? Thanks again for any help. You seem to have lost the use of your "Enter" key to create paragraph breaks.
The only real solution is to be more patient, and just delete the shortcuts that do cause problems.
In Preferences, Shortcuts, you could uncheck "Use single-key shortcuts" — that should solve most problems since one rarely uses the Ctrl or Alt keys for typing.

Thanks for your reply, Pesala, and the chuckle (paragraph-free writing has been my wont for so long that I forget it can be annoying). After Googling about a bit more I think that the problem is that the "backspace" button is a shortcut to go one page backward in page history. I just tested this and, even though "Use single-key shortcuts" is unchecked, if I lose focus and hit backspace I go back a page in page history. Do you know how I can disable this? There are so many categories under "Edit keyboard setup" that I'm not sure where to attack.
sgunhouse: thanks for the idea; I'll try right now.

sgunhouse: your suggestion worked like a charm; thank you very much
. For anyone who wants to disable the "backspace" button on their keyboard from taking them back a page in their page history but still have it work for moving right-to-left when typing, go to "Tools/Preferences/Advanced/Shortcuts" and highlight 'Opera Standard" under "Keyboard setup" then click on "Edit". Then type "backspace" into the "Quick find" box and delete the top (first) entry (for your OS). Here's shot of the proper entry to delete for Windows:
