Writing Challenge - Musical Inspiration

It's no secret that music is one of the biggest sources of inspiration for me as a writer. Claude Debussy, Antonio Vivaldi, and an obscure Canadian concept album helped me write my first novel, and I'm never without music when I go for a run, which is where I tend to get most of my short story ideas.

So here's what I'm wondering: how will others be inspired by the musical pieces that inspired me?

I'll give you a choice of five songs, including the name of the artist so that you can find them online. If you can't find a song available for download, you can usually find it somewhere on YouTube. If not, let me know and I can find a way to send it to you. As far as the actual writing goes, there really are no rules (well...no poetry, that's for our sister site). It can be fiction or non-fiction.

Without further ado...

Claude Debussy - Clair de Lune
The Tragically Hip - Ahead by a Century
Guster - Demons
Neverending White Lights - From What I Once Was
Norah Jones - Shoot the Moon

And if everybody enjoys this challenge, we get to do it all again to the tune of somebody else's musical tastes! Happy writing!

OMG, both Guster and The Tragically Hip? My Brother My Brother!

Or as Bullwinkle would say, "Buckle up my sleeves, Presto!"

Damn! I may be in trouble. I rarely have any background noise when I'm writing and when I do it is music only no vocals to distract me.

Jim - I knew you would like the addition of Guster! Glad to see I'm not the only one who appreciates The Hip!

Dianne - The challenge is, of course, optional. If you'd rather work without distractions, 'Clair de Lune' might be a good piece...

James,
promise to get on this one over the weekend. I have the challenge copied and pasted into a folder, that I just now realized I hadn't begun. Music is a big influence. Artists paint with their medium, writers paint with words and musicians paint with notes. It's all interrelated.

Glad to see you're still interested in the challenge! I would've written my own piece, but between edits, the blog, NaNoWriMo and work I can barely find the time to sleep, even! Looking forward to seeing what you write - and what piece of music you choose!

I'm glad you're busy too James. I don't have time for much of anything these days. Trying to fit more of "me" in my life, if that's at all possible! Still have this in my mind to do...
