[1076] Frequent 3 second freezes

I just noticed this behavior since the update to 1076. When using Opera, very frequently the software will freeze for about three seconds before continue on. This happens in all kinds of situations. It happens when switching tabs, typing in a textarea, scrolling a page, and more. Opera will show as "Not responding" for a few seconds and then continue to work. In fact it just happened now after I logged into My Opera. After the forum page loaded, Opera froze for several seconds before I could click on New Topic.

At first I thought the issue could be a problem with the hard drive. I'm running Opera on a Vertex 2 SSD. I used Resource Monitor to check disk activity, and I don't see any long response times at all, and no apparently slowness accessing Opera cache files. The worst response times were about 50-70ms on pagefile.sys. No other applications are showing the same signs of freezing periodically.

I currently have about 40-50 tabs open in the session. CPU usage is hovering around 3-13% (by opera.exe) and memory usage is 1.1GB (1.6GB commit size) with a total of 12GB available RAM in the computer.

I see these freezes only when I try to download files.

It's happening for me constantly, even when I'm not doing anything. For example, I was just watching a YouTube video and Opera and the entire page, including the Flash video, completely froze for about 5-6 seconds (I could still hear the audio). It's getting incredibly frustrating.

Do you see 100% cpu load (maybe one core) when frozen?

I confirm Opera 12 freezes for 3-10 seconds while:

1) watching YouTube (Flash) - audio plays but video is freezed
2) scrolling websites (more images + more scripts = more frequent and longer freezes)
3) opening new tabs, navigating, other actions (JavaScript + DOM changes)

Symptoms:

1) Opera seeks hard disk (probably pagefile.sys) extremely
2) Sometimes "No response" on title bar
3) You can do nothing while Opera is searching HDD
4) Less memory you have, Opera freezes more frequently
5) Memory usage increases, CPU too

Most extremist websites:

1) Facebook - big improvement since Opera 10/11 but it still must be optimized
2) Nk.pl - memory and CPU usage extremely high, freezes, everything slow: user galleries, messages, home (you must login to see it)
3) GMail - extremely high memory usage, freezes while going to another folder and reading messages, you must optimize it

Reasons:

1) Memory leaks
2) Extensive (wasteful) memory management and no free()
3) Other reasons - but what???

Why searching pagefile.sys is so slow? Think how to improve memory access speed.

Those are exactly the same symptoms I'm having. I have my pagefile and opera files on an SSD, so there shouldn't be much delay there from the hardware.

Try to disable the page file at all. 12 G must be sufficient for this.
