PEM files in Opera

Hi! I use Opera (of course) and im running Cerberus FTP server. Cerberus makes certificates and keys with *.pem extension. Id like to import them into Opera. When i try this Opera allows me to choose the pem files, but nothing happens after clicking the Ok button. Opera's basic advise is *.usr file type. Cerberus cant make this type. How can I import pem files into Opera? Thnx a lot!

What are you trying to import? Make sure you are importing it in the right destination (client certificates or authorities)

If it is a client certificate, then the private key must already be in the repository, or you must use the Private key + certificate, PKCS #12, .p12, format.

You can rename files to whatever you want by using operating system tools, .pem is fine for importing, the extensions suggested are just the ones most commonly used, and only used for file searching, they are actually not used to determine what to do about the file when importing it.

The PEM files MUST have the right name header for the data, either for certificate or the PKCS #12 format. As far as the binary format is concerned Opera will autodetect that.

Thanks for your regard.
Well, Cerberus FTP server makes certificates with PEM extension.
I try to import these files into Opera. Tools -> Preferences --> Advanced--> Security --> Manage Certificates button.
When i click the Import button a new dialog box appears. There is a scroll menu at the bottom of this box (File type).
Originally, already there is a type --> X509(*.usr).
I can choose *.pem too, but there is nothing change after choosing that.
I tried to do this in all tabs of the dialog box.

Please explain your sentence: "The PEM files MUST have the right name header for the data, either for certificate or the PKCS #12 format. As far as the binary format is concerned". I dont understand it correctly.

... and how can i convert certificates files from each to others? for exaple: pem to cer.
Thnx again!

What certificate are you trying to import? A client/personal certificate? Or an authority certificate?

You have to open the proper section of the Manager to be able to import the file correctly, and the section you are quoting from is the Client certificate section. In the proper section you select the .pem extension from the file format dropdown to search for .pem files.

The text of a PEM format certificate file MUST start with a line "-----BEGIN CERTIFICATE-----", key+cert have to begin with "-----BEGIN PKCS12-----"; there in another option, too. The contents of the file will be ignored if does not start with one of the recognized startlines, and the binary data encoded in the file must also be coded as one of the recognized certificate distribution file formats. It does not matter what extension is on the file, each certificate format type is checked for automatically, regardless of what the file is supposed to be.

Oh mother! Ive got the answer! I was the idiot...
I was lazy to read the Help file of Cerberus correctly.
It says the answer to my problem.

The certificate files made by Cerberus arent compatible with the common types.
These types can not be imported into web browsers.
These are for just FTP clients, such as CoreFTP.

Thank you very much your help.
Ive learnt some new things by you.
