Uploading tif images to blog
Hi everyone,I find that my pictures have a lot of jpeg 'noise' when I upload them to my blog.
Therefore I am now trying to upload TIF images.
Why don't these display in my blog? I upload them, the image path shows on my blog (in the box where you type your text) but when I click 'publish' or 'preview', I do not see any picture.
Can someone please help?
Thanks

It seems as though I cannot upload TIF images to my photo album, so I assume it is not possibel to upload them to my blog. Why isn't it possible to upload tif images? I know nothing about IT, so I have no clue.
So, how can I avoid this jpeg noise?
I've changed my photo to a GIF format but now it's all pixel-ley too :|
Hmmm I wonder if other blogging platforms would allow me to upload a tif image.

It depends how you are saving your jpg files. Most software indicates a 'quality' number (from 1-9 or 1-12, or in a percentage). You should save your photo at around 7 or 8, or 70% for uploading to the web. And never save and re-save a jpg as the quality will reduce each time you save it. Any photo-editing should be done on a copy of the original.
TIF files are very large compared to jpg and are not suitable for posting to the web (and, if the original is noisy it won't make any difference). Plus unless their set-up is right not everyone will be able to see a TIF file (TIFF is not standard html format for web pages).
GIF images don't carry the full colour range which is why they appear pixelated and blocky. They are mainly used for animations.
PM if you want more advice.

Try PNG instead of TIF — they are still larger than JPG for most photographs, but not for other image types with fewer colours. They should display OK on any web page.

Thanks for your help.
I noticed yesterday there is a quality/compression saving option in the program I used, so I selected the minimal amount of compression as possible and thinks look better.
I haven't tried png files, so I can try them next time:)

But I don't think a web browser can open/render a .tif file directly. I uploaded a very small .tif file and tried to open it in Opera, SeaMonkey, SRWare Iron and even Internet Explorer 8, but none can render a .tif file.
