Opera portable not acting as default browser
I have Opera 11.51 portable version and can't seem to get it to act as default browser on my Windows 7 machine.Has anyone else come across this problem and found a solution?
If I am not wrong, a portable application does not create any anything in Windows Registry and Windows cannot detect the portable application because Windows relies on Registry for a list of installed applications and can only assign installed applications as default programs.
Windows 7 SP1 x86 edition and Windows XP Service Pack 3.

You need to run it as a single profile installation instead, i.e. /singleprofile. I believe it's completely the same as portable, except that it allows you to utilize the built-in "make default" stuff.

The only thing I don't get with this is how to install via the command line.
It mentions doing it, but not how to.
Can anyone describe what I should be doing here?

Probably the easiest way to use the command line is described here.
You do have to open the file with notepad eg to see if the options and path fit your needs and adapt where necessary.
It has never happened to me that the installer overwrote mail or contacts, but it is always safe to back them up, I usually zip the entire profile folder to a safe location after having deleted 'private data' like the cache.
