CNET is slow in Opera. Not sure who to complain.
My favorite tech news site CNET has recently re-designed their web site to use HTML5 but their new site feels sluggish in Opera especially when scrolling up and down even with smooth scrolling enabled. After testing several browers, I found only IE9 and Firefox can provide smooth scrolling on CNET but only when hardware acceleration is enabled. Disabling hardware acceleration would make page scrollsing IE9 and Firefox some what slower but nowhere as sluggish as Opera.
I don't know if this is CNET's fault or if the current rendering engine in Opera 11.51 is not as efficient as other browsers?
I turned off plug-ins in browsers so no flash ads would displayed but it makes no difference.
Among all browsers (with hardware acceleration turned *off* if available), Opera 11.51 appears to be the slowest when scrolling CNET web pages.
My PC is pretty fast (i7-860 & Radeon HD 5850) so I never expect Opera would be this sluggish when browsing web sites.
Does anyone else have sluggish page scrolling when viewing CNET?

Just checked it out from here in Opera, FF and SRWare Iron. Can't say I noticed any difference between any of them.

From their help page:
"We are aware of playback problems in the Opera browser and are actively working to fix them. Please expect resolution of this problem very soon. We like Opera just as much as you do.". I'm sure they realized already that video playback is not their only problem with Opera.

Hi to all,
I found this thread whilst googling "cnet is slow". I am not an Opera user, but I just signed up to let you know that I think the problem is with cnet.
I use Internet Explorer 8 and Windows XP (I'll wait until the howls of dismay die down) and for the past few weeks cnet, or download.com as I know it, has been getting slower to use, with pages slow to load and clunky scrolling.
But now that they've launched their new-look site, it has become excruciatingly slow. You have to wait for each and every page to load, you have to wait before you can type into the search field, you have to wait before you can scroll down, and then it scrolls very jerkily, in big jumps at a time. It is so frustrating and it takes the pleasure out of browsing.
(And why is the text now so huge? Do they think all their users are short-sighted?)
Please don't suggest it's my computer, my browser or my operating system, because I only experience the problem with cnet / download.com, every other site runs as smoothly as it should.
Consequently download.com has ceased to be my first choice for looking for software, I now go to Freeware Files instead, but I won't give up on it completely because I still like to read their user reviews before I install anything.

Yeah, I'm using V11.51 Build 1087 and Cnet is excruciatingly slow--constant freezing and scroll-bar jerkiness. I noticed the problem about two days ago, when they debuted their site re-design. This problem does not occur with Chrome or Firefox. I hope Cnet rectifies the situation soon because, at the time of this writing, the site is not usable.
