startup/shutdown issues

If you've used the Opera web browser for any length of time, you may have already run across the following scenario: shortly or long after having closed the browser, you try to launch it back up. Instead of the normal startup process, you receive the following error message: "Another instance of Opera is still in the process of shutting down. Please wait until it finishes, or terminate it using the task manager

Can somebody please fix this bug already its really annoying

Your first post, so welcome to the Opera forums! smile

This is a well-known, longstanding, but not well-understood issue mostly thought to involve Opera's "housekeeping" upon Exit. See here for an overview, and this thread for an extended discussion, with numerous users' experiences. (I haven't been around for several months, so I don't know about any recent developments, but a forum search should turn up numerous threads.)

You didn't mention your OS but for Windows users, in most cases, it's simplest (and safe) to just kill the opera.exe process in Task Manager if you don't want to wait for it to close.
