Making F4 buttons for MAIN TOOLBAR instead?

I'd really like to have buttons from the F4 menu WITHOUT having to press F4 to constantly toggle the sidebar on and off. In example I want to have the 'Downloads' button in the main toolbar and when I press it the first time to have the downloads panel appear and then when I press it the second time to have the downloads panel disappear (like pressing F4 a second time). I want to do the same thing with the 'History' button and have it behave exactly like Firefox behaves. How can I do this please?

WHOA! Awesome! This has been one of the biggest things that has annoyed me to no end for years! Thank you both!

Info (As Properties) is the only one I can think of that I'd also like please.

Whoever was the second person to post who then removed their post...those are the buttons I actually ended up using, I didn't want to seem disrespectful or indifferent to the first poster (as they took the time to reply) so I thanked you both.

Where are these buttons saved file wise in the file system? In the Opera folder itself? I don't see any file that stands out in details / last modified.

Tamil, which comma can I use quotes to customize the text of the button please?

They are save in your customised toolbar config file in your profile folder.

Drag the links to your bookmarks to save them for reuse, in case you lose this thread.

See the Buttons link in my signature for more info on creating custom buttons, or see the sticky thread at the top of this forum.

I looked up the user profile folder which was described as being listed in the about:opera tab. E.g. C:\Documents and Settings\USERNAME\Application Data\Opera\Opera 12.0\operaprefs.ini

I found the settings file here...
Application Data\Opera\Opera 12.0\toolbar\standard_toolbar.ini

The button code I copied to Opera 11.5 as plain text (thank goodness!)

[Customize Toolbar Custom.content]
Button0, "Downloads"="Focus panel, "transfers", , "Downloads", "Panel Transfers" | Set alignment, "hotlist""
Button1, "History"="Focus panel, "history", , "History", "Panel History" | Set alignment, "hotlist""

Since these buttons work I can use them as a good starting point to better understand how Opera's toolbars function. smile

Thank you for the help!
