Opera Mini 6.5 for Android

Hi everyone,

It's time for a new release.
Please visit Opera's page in Android Market on your PC or open Android Market application on your
phone to download.

You may want to check out "Data Usage" section in "Help" to see how much data Opera Mini is saving for you.

Opera Mini will save you even more data now as we tweaked it a bit to use WebP for image compression.

This will be a manual update in Android Market as we have added one new permission for reading system bookmarks. But in return we have given you the possibility to import bookmarks from Android system browser.

We also have a handy star for you in the address field. Just touch it to bookmark current page or add a shortcut on Android home screen.

You can read more about the new features in Opera Mini Blog.

We are looking forward for your feedback!
You can report problems using our bug wizard.

Agreed! Or make it available as an option under Settings.

The image compression is fine when viewing pages, but we really need to see the full uncompressed image when when select 'open image' option. I use this a lot on a small screened phone so I can zoom and look aroung the full sized image, a blurry tiny thumbnail just isn't acceptable for me.

Worst update ever...
Yeah maybe an exaggeration but it keeps freezing up when scrolling the page, and often when new pages load up the transition gets stuck at around 80% new page and 20% old and often have to wait upto 20 seconds for the pages to unfreeze.

Love ability to Bookmark on Home screen, but would be better if icon text could be edited first. Thanks!

You may just need to wait longer.
I often get a blank screen after opening a link, but there's a spinner at the upper left, and if I keep waiting, the page appears.

UPDATE: In careful testing I have found that sometimes the blank screen does not populate -- the link must be opened a 2nd or even a 3rd time to populate the screen. My guess is that the Opera servers sometimes don't respond fast enough for the app, which gives up with a blank screen. It is something that needs to be addressed. I have submitted a bug report.

I have just started using opera mini for my t mobile Comet and am very impressed with how much faster it is, but I'm having trouble with the zoom. Just about every time I select a link, the screen also zooms in extremely far. Is there any way to prevent this? Also, when I go to a new site, it is often initially zoomed all the way out. Isn't there a way to lock the zoom level to a particular font size? Perhaps the problems I'm having are a result of my lack of multi touch or the very small 320x240 screen resolution?

I think what happens is that opera mini is not sure what link you are trying to open, so it zooms in to make it easier. This happens to me also, even though I have a bigger screen, most often when links are close together. As for the zoom size, try going to settings and choosing the highest zoom level. Failing that, choose mobile view(or single column view).

Thank you for the info. What do you mean by the highest zoom level? The largest font size? If I zoom all the way in, things are blown up too large. That is one of the problems I keep running into.

Hi,

I'm new to Opera Browser/Mini and I'm finding that things aren't displayed as I would expect them to be. For instance, the Google mobile homepage doesn't display the tabs across it with gmail etc on them. I've also noticed it doesn't display the forum I read correctly. Any suggestions or is this normal behaviour?

Update: Have been brave and deleted! Did a fresh installation. of Mini.Seems. OK
Also turned off Sync as suggested by Sagrid on another forum page( thanks!)

When you touch the screen, you should see the zoom bar (+/-). This should let you zoom in and out gradually. If that does not solve the problem then maybe you should contact Opera to ask for help.

Just tried OM6.5 for Android and dropping by to say THANKS for bringing the http connection option back, now I'm no longer having connection error when multi-tasking.

I haven't fidgeted with 6.5 thoroughly, but it's so far so great!

Best wishes,
Adrian
