Pop mail accounts won't retrieve anymore after master password change

I wanted to try to set a master password for all my pop email accounts, and then i decided i didn't need it and I unchecked the master password option. Ever since opera smtp just stopped working - mail retrieval doesn't kick in anymore, and does not respond to manual "check mail" button.

I have no idea how to solve this one, short of creating duplicates for my dozen accounts (so as not to lose all the downloaded emails).

Help.

Simplest way to fix this is to make sure "use master password to protect saved passwords" is not checked and make sure a master password is not set. Then, close down Opera and delete wand.dat and opcert6.dat. They're in the preferences folder. See opera:about for the location.

You'll lose all your passwords for sites and mail etc. and will have to re-enter them. But, that should fix it.

If you don't want to do that, you could try a few things.

* Enable the master password again and set it to the same password you had. Then, ok out of preferences. Then, go back in and uncheck "use master password to protect saved passwords". Ok out of preferences. Then, go back in and clear the master password. If that one box isn't checked, try checking it, okaying out of preferences, going back in and unchecking it.

* Or, you could just try going into the mail account's preferences and try retyping the username and password.

If you have a master password set and you check "use master password to protect saved passwords", I think it's best to uncheck that, ok out of preferences and restart Opera before changing the master password. Otherwise, they might be left encrypted where Opera can't access them anymore with the new master password. Opera should re-encrypt when you change the master password so you shouldn't have to worry about this. But, I don't know for sure, so that might be one way to avoid any problems in the future.

Personally, I'd just delete the files. That way, I'd be sure things are right.

Thank you for your advice. I hoped to solve the problem without having to retype all the passwords, but in the preferences the checkbox is greyed out and i can't set or reset the master password either because "current password" is greyed out too. So I had to delete wand and opcert6.dat and reenter all the passwords. That worked fine.
