There's a foo.newsrc file in the mail folder that lists all the groups for the newsgroup. You should be able to edit it while Opera is closed to add the new entries.
Or, just delete the file and set "last_updated" to 0 in incomingN.txt while Opera closed. See accounts.ini to find out what number the account is.
Then, when you start Opera, you can right-click on the newsgroups access point in the mail panel and choose "newsgroups" and the updated list should show. You can also type the nntp URI in the address field to get to the list.
