Does Opera AdBlock use urlfilter.ini and css filtering?

Based on what I've seen elsewhere in the forum, this extension behaves *exactly* like urlfilter.ini and the css element filter. Which makes me wonder:

Is this extension merely a frontend + updater for urlfilter.ini and the css filter? If it is, that's great, because those two files don't update on their own. (I wish so very badly Windows had a cron implementation...)

I love the extension. Thanks.

I believe that what you've read is true. This extension behaves exactly like urlfilter.ini with CSS Element Filters (and thus, is limited by Opera's content blocking API) with added feature to automatically update the lists and CSS filter. It has other features like allowing you to use multiple and experimental lists (converted from Firefox AdBlock Plus format) and a 'Pass the New York times' paywall' and a 'Block Facebook plugins' feature. But unlike when using urlfilter.ini, 'Right Click > Blocked Content > Details' won't list items blocked in the current page (an Opera content blocking API limitation). This makes it harder to exclude Opera AdBlock from using a certain filter.
