Reenable doubleclicking text
I have my Logitech mouse middle button set to 'double click', in all previous Opera versions I could use this button to select a word -now I get a sort of pan symbol like this. How can I return to the old behavior?Double clicking a tab this way to close it still works as before.
Opera 12.00 alpha
Win-7 ultimate
Logitech Mouseware 9.80
Apearantly yes, but I don't know what a middle click is, there is no option in the mouse setup for that and the double click option I chose is accepted by 99% of all software -exceptions being Photoshop and a home written XMPlay plugin that really required middle clicks.
Still hoping there is an option responsible but it doesn't seem to be in operaprefs.ini

It wouldn't be, no. I'm not a developer so I can only guess, but I'd say they must have changed the way they are accessing the mouse (probably to be compatible with how they're doing hardware acceleration) and thus aren't picking up your mouse driver's settings.
As far as it goes, "middle click" is probably listed as "default button" or "system default" or some such. My own mouse (not a Logitech) requires the button action be set as "None" to get a regular middle-click ...
Opera's default actions for middle-click are as follows:
Middle-click on link: Open link in background tab (See middle-click options dialog)
Middle-click elsewhere on page: enable panning
Middle-click on tab (in tab bar): close tab
Middle-click empty area of tab bar: Open new tab
Middle-click in Bookmarks panel: Open bookmark in new tab
Additionally, you can assign functions in the mouse setup by referring to "Button3"

Thanks sgunhouse, I did find the missing option, it is listed as 'button-3 middle' and using it makes 11.51 pan as expected. Opera 12 treats both options the same way. To me that is a bug.
A few minutes ago in 12a also the acceleration set up in my driver went astray, lss there is an option for hardware acceleration -thanks for mentioning that- I set it to zero and everything was back to what I was used to. So to really make sure I reset it to one and indeed this reverted all.
End of the story is that whatever setting I used after that I'm stuck with a pan cursor and an almost dead mouse.

Partially solved thanks to this post:
So that leaves the middle/double click issue to be solved, reported as DSK-348431.
XP was thinking Opera was a game and was turning off all the mouse acceleration and scrolling preferences .... I unchecked the 'disable acceleration in games' option and the speed and scrolling returned to normal
So that leaves the middle/double click issue to be solved, reported as DSK-348431.

And I can confirm that bug with the middle/double click issue. My middle button double clicks in 11.51 and does the weird pan thing in 12a too. (Win XP)

As of the latest snapshop for 12 alpha this issue seems to be resolved for me. In the control panel's mouse properties, I turned the "disable acceleration in games" back ON and now both 11.51 and 12 alpha act the same, and both browsers now allow the middle click option in Opera to work as it should again.

I can only confirm the first part, luckily, but my 'programmed' doubleclick still gives me the pan cursor. Maybe I have to upgrade from Mouseware 9.80 to Setpoint (if it supports my six year old optical usb mouse) or would that be a waist of time?
[Solved] Apparently it is standard behavior for Logitech mouseware to be overridden in CAD software -that would explain Photoshop (see above) and games. To 're-override' all this one needs an advanced options utility (mwadvanced<lang code>.exe download info) that indeed fixes everything, even on Windows 7.
