Change Headers in Reply and Forward Mail Body
I was not satisfied with the default reply header that reads something like:"On Wednesday, October 27, 2004, Joe Bloggs <joeb@example.org> wrote:"
I prefer a more complete and formal header that reads:
------- Original Message -------
From: "SENDER'S NAME" <email address>
To: "RECIPIENT'S NAME" <email address>
Cc:
Subject: Whatever
Date: Thu, October 06, 2011
------- Forwarded message -------
From: "SENDER'S NAME" <email address>
To: "RECIPIENT'S NAME" <email address>
Cc:
Subject: Whatever
Date: Thu, October 06, 2011
To make these changes, go to the accounts.ini file in C:\Documents and Settings\User Name\Local Settings\Application Data\Opera\Opera\mail (Windows XP directory), and replace the default headers (Reply= and Forward=) with the following:
Reply=\n\n------- Original Message -------\nFrom: %:From:\nTo: %:To:\nCc: %:Cc:\nSubject: %:Subject:\nDate: %a, %B %d, %Y\n
Forward=\n\n------- Forwarded message -------\nFrom: %:From:\nTo: %:To:\nCc: %:Cc:\nSubject: %:Subject:\nDate: %a, %B %d, %Y\n
Additional coding is provided at: http://www.opera.com/browser/tutorials/mail/advanced/#custom-reply
If you are not confident in making these changes, make a copy of the original accounts.ini file before beginning, name it "accounts.ini.original", and proceed with changes to the accounts.ini file. That way, if your changes are not successful, you can delete the modified accounts.ini file and rename the copy to "accounts.ini". This should restore the original file and function.
Note that the Opera browser must be closed when you save changes to the accounts.ini file for the changes to take effect.
