Can't get Opera to download torrents

By default it probably works, but I decided to ditch uTorrent for the sake of giving downloading with Opera a whirl. i'm thinking of moving back if I can't get it working reliably.

I've tried many things:
1) Save to disk and then double-clicking it. Result: it opens with opera, and Opera downloads another torrent-file, naming it "Torrent (1).torrent"
2) Open with Opera (set in preferences->downloads->torrent). Result: I get a save-dialog with a "bittorrent preferences" button and everything, but once I click save and select a place to save, opera just saves the torrent file, and doesn't actually download the content.
3) Open with default application. Result: "No registred application"
4) Show download dialog and click Open. Result: "No registred application"

Only after trying step 2 again, the entry in the Preferences->Downloads list is completely removed, while manually removing it didn't work?!

But now that it says it's downloading, but doesn't actually download a single byte, I'll give uTorrent another try.

Thanks for nothing, Opera team, but please make it work next time.

I have the exact same problem with Opera.

I used to download torrents with Opera 9.X on Windows 98/Me. But about one or two years ago it stopped working for no apparent reason. Like yo said, it doesn't download a single bit anymore. Even after hours of waiting - nothing.

Looks like Opera isn't compatible to the actual torrent protocol anymore(?)

So I downloaded uTorrent and this works perfectly. With Internet Explorer and Opera.

The torrent client in Opera is old, hasn't been updated for quite some time, and isn't exactly high on the priority list. It is entirely possible that newer torrent clients use a newer version of the torrent protocol that Opera doesn't understand.

Actually they are no longer on the list.

Opera is working on-

1. Opera browser
2. Opera Mail
3. Opera Link
4. Opera extensions

No work is being done on-

1. BitTorrent Client
2. Opera Notes
3. Opera Widgets (API)
4. IRC chat
Windows 7 SP1 x86 edition and Windows XP Service Pack 3.
If you need any help from me with regards to Opera, please make a comment on any of my blog posts.

Personally, I'm not using Opera Mail, Opera Link or Opera extensions. But I would like to have a built in, effective BitTorrent Client.

So I cast my vote for inclusion of Bit Torrent Client in the priorities.
If it's not in the computer, it doesn't exist.
