iPhone 4s

Apple announced the release of the iPhone 4s a week ago. This is the review of the new iPhone 4s.

Siri
Don't expect miracles with the new release of the iPhone. iPhone 4s looks the same as the previous model iPhone 4. However, as with the other "s" range, Apple has promised faster performance. Apple claims that it now has the same A5 dual core processor as the iPad 2, which should make games and applications load and perform a lot better. However, I really didn't test the performance claim as it can be quite hard testing "performance" without owning an iPhone. The big feature of the new iPhone 4s is Siri a voice command app. Siri is activated by holding down the home key (the black button in the middle of the iPhone). Siri is also vain. According to WinRumors, here are Siri replys for question regarding Microsoft and about itself:



Siri is certainly a "wow" feature of the iPhone 4s but it is still a hit and miss. For example, it cannot voice mailoicemail or any of the built in apps. Also, for some strange reason it interprets "My Opera" as "my old bra." As a down side, Siri only available when connected to Internet.

iPhone 4s other features
Apple has improved the iPhone 4s in that it now doesn't have to be "activated" before first use. It can be used straight out of the box. This is certainly a welcome move. However, it STILL does not support drag and drop that other dumb phone and Android smart phones support.

The iPhone 4s sport the new iOS 5 operating system. The operating system brings with an Android-like notification bar on the top. You can activate the notification bar by sliding down the top, just like Android does.



Another new feature of the iPhone 4s is the 8 megapixel camera with flash. Here is a sample of a picture taken by the iPhone. It is of my phone, the Sony Ericsson K800i. Click on the picture for a larger view.



A downside it is near impossible difficult to send pictures and music via Bluetooth. All the other phones can do that (even my non-smart phone the Sony Ericsson K800i can do this). It seems stupid of Apple NOT to include this feature. The iPhone 4s can only send photos via email, Twitter, text message, or sync pictures and contents to the iCloud to share with other Apple devices. It seems Apple want the iPhone environment to be a tight niche of Apple devices. For this reason, I still CANNOT recommend the iPhone. Also, if you have iPhone 4s, save your money and wait for the iPhone 5 since the 4s wouldn't make much difference (other than the touted antenna fix).

That's really all we need to know about the 'review' above.

I expected it to have the BASIC phone features like sending files over bluetooth, which the iPhone cannot do. It may have all the advanced features like Siri but it doesn't support drag and drop or copy files via bluetooth. Both the Android and Windows Phone 7 can do this. Plus, Android do flash, iPhone doesn't.
