See if linked content will open in new/same tab/window in fore-/background by change of cursor

Hi there,

I often wonder whether linked content will open by default in the same tab or window and in the foreground or in the background before I click on them.
I got the idea of a cursor that changes its appearance depending on the manner the linked content will open.
I often want the linked content to open in a background tab. But sometimes I would prefer it to open in the current tab.
I don't know any way to find out the default action before having clicked on the link which is uncomfortable.
When you point on a link, the cursor could show whether the link is going to open in the current tab or in a new tab or window in the background or foreground. This could be done by icons that are easy to understand so that you immediately see what's the deal. Users could choose their action depending on that information.
At the same time, this would enable fitting for example the action of the middle mouse key to the current situation: If the linked content is opened in a new tab by default, middle mouse click could open it in the current tab and vice versa.
A problem I see is that AFAIK cursors are defined by the OS. Could the set of cursors be extended?
Did I point out clearly what I mean? Do you understand the issue? Do you think it's possible to implement it? What do you think about such a feature?
I will be glad to chat about it.
And please excuse any possible language mistakes, I'm not a native speaker. Fell free, however, to point them out. I'm always glad to improve my language skills.

First the original wish: having the link's target displayed before you click it.
I don't think it's useful, when you are in doubt if it opens in the current tab or in a new tab in the foreground or background, just follow it using the appropriate modifiers / shortcut / gesture for the action you want and there'll be no problems.

The second wish: having the modifiers actions changed depending on the link's target.
It'd be very confusing. And there's no necessity as I think I explained on the first wish. But I see a thing here, you want to be able to open a link that would open in a new tab in the current tab, this is understandable. And I just discovered there's a way to do this! Right-click the link and select Open. smile

Yes, it's uncomfortable, but changing cursors would propably be more annoying. After all Opera may not know either. Would Opera know how Javascript links are opened before the code is executed?

One solution is to take out the guesswork: I instructed Opera to open all links in the current tab, so I know what the default is and can easily open links in new tabs (shift click) when I want.

As a matter of curiosity, how do you do this?
