opera mixing file extensions
Ok, i'm acitve at one privat forum. and problem is when i see attachment something.txt when i click on it opera think its pdf file. And fore every other extension (rar, zip, doc) allways wanna open with adobe reader and when i choose save, its save as pdf. and then i can't open it until i change to real extension (zip, doc etc). firefox, chrome works just fine. Whats the problem???Unless your file settings (in Preferences > Advanced > Downloads) have been terribly configured, it would have to be a problem on their end...
Opera will change extensions to whatever extension is listed for a given file type in Downloads, so either the server is listing all files as a type Opera thinks should have an extension of PDF, or else they are sending it with the wrong type.
My guess is actually that they are sending everything as one type, but probably a generic type such as application/octet-stream, and that your Opera has been configured to assign an extension of pdf to that type.
Go to Preferences (Alt-P) > Advanced > Downloads and uncheck the box "Hide file types opened with Opera", then type "pdf" in the Quick find box and see which type(s) are listed for that extension. If anything comes up which shouldn't be there (and on my system I only get 2 matches: application/pdf and application/vnd.adobe.pdfxml) you'll have to edit it and change it to the correct extension (or no extension, in the case of application/octet-stream).

Same problem here - when I download a file which is correctly named by the host site, Opera changes the extension from .pdf tp .zip.
Under preferences there's nothing else than "application/pdf" showing up...
Anybody any idea?

Sounds like the server is incorrectly sending the file as application/zip. This means that no matter what the extension of the file is, Opera should rename the file to have a .zip extension. To fix this, either get the site to properly send pdf files as application/pdf, or add pdf to the application/zip extensions list in Opera's preferences.
You can paste the link to the file in http://www.rexswain.com/httpview.html and then look at the response content-type header to see what mime type the file is sent as. That'll tell you what file type in Opera you have to mess with if you want to work around it.
