Java in Opera

I've been using FireFox for about 4 years and recently I've been having a lot of crashing issues and decided to go back to Opera. A site that I use for work uses Java and it loads fine in FF but in Opera there are no plus symbols next to the ticket queues to allow one to minimize the queues. This is quite annoying. Here are some screen shots so you guys can see what I'm talking about. Perhaps there is an add-on that I need or a setting to click. For example, there should be a plus symbol next to Filters, Labels, Customer Service, etc. Any help is much appreciated so I can get rid of this crash prone FireFox!

Opera - sadly without the plus symbols

Did you read the recommended link? your latest thread was the same as this one. A poor thread title, no mention of which site it refers to, no link to the site in the problem description.

Without this basic information, it is difficult to help you. We must spend our time explaining how to report problems because you didn't do what the linked thread suggests. It doesn't look like one of those sites that should not be linked to in this family friendly forum.

When posting, please follow these simple rules:
  1. As a rule of thumb, use separate threads for different sites. Listing several sites in one single thread can get confusing, and makes it more difficult for others to search for information
  2. Use a brief but descriptive title for new threads, such as "menus at example.com not working"
  3. Remember to include the name or at least the domain name ("example.com") of the site in the subject line (Note: not the complete URL, just the actual domain name)
  4. Give an URL to the specific page you are having problems with, if possible
  5. Give step by step instructions on how the problem can be reproduced
  6. Try to keep it brief (yet descriptive), and avoid bringing up things that are not directly related to the actual problem(s) you are having.

FYI: Attaching Screen Shots (faster than using image hosting sites)
Upload the result to Your File Storage and use the icons above the message reply box to insert the relevant code.

2. left pane navigation not showing plus signs
3. hostingsupport.com/staff
4. hostingsupport.com/staff/index.php?_m=tickets&_a=manage&departmentid=5&ticketstatusid=1
5. I log in and the plus symbols do not show up as in FF, IE, Chrome, Safari

Hope this clears up some of your concerns for my horrible thread

unfortunately, in this case, the entire site that is having this issue is secure. The client side looks totally different or I'd simply put a login in here for help.

When I mask as Firefox the symbols are there and function correctly. What does the mask as Firefox actually do? I didn't try this before cus I'm trying to get away from Firefox since their almost weekly updates and version changes have caused many crashes. Like every time I open yahoo.com. Anyways, if I mask as Firefox does it render the page using Firefox or is it using something inside Opera to make it act like Firefox?

Thanks again for the help

I think what it does is deceive the web site into sending the code that they tested in Firefox, rather than some rubbish code that they didn't test in Opera. Read the sticky thread for details:

awesome! Those help a lot. Both Identify as and mask as firefox work so I'll use that. On our Sharepoint site I have to use Mask as IE....that's MS for ya though. Again, thanks for all the help

Looks like a secure site that requires a login to see the problem. So unless there's a link we can access, we may not be as successful troubleshooting.

Since I can't access it, I can't tell if the site is using Java or JavaScript (not the same, but frequently confused with each other), but I'm guessing JavaScript.

However, whether it's Java or JavaScript, any time you get a site that doesn't seem to behave correctly in Opera (especially if you suspect JavaScript), try editing your Site Preferences to have Opera Identify (or Mask) as Firefox (or IE):

Tools > Quick Preferences (or F12) > Edit Site Preferences > Network > Browser identification > Identify/Mask as FF/IE

(simply refresh the page after making a change, and try all 4 options if necessary)

If that doesn't work, is there anyplace on the site that we could see the same problem without having to log in?

And see this F-V post and sgunhouse's answers to my post here regarding the differences between Masking and Identifying... ...will probably help clarify the whole issue of what they both do (and why), as well as how they are different.

(oops, I see I just missed you)

Unfortunately it doesn't always work, but it's always worth a try!

You probably caught this in the threads I mentioned, but those of us who want to see Opera succeed prefer Identify when possible, because Opera will at least still get counted in browser statistics by the sites/servers that are set up to do so.
