File URL works directly but not through another app

I can successfully run a video directly from Opera Mobile 11.5.1 using "". When the same string is sent from another app, the search bar of Opera shows "file////sdcard/video.mp4" and I get the error "Address not available. You tried to access the address http://file////sdcard/video.mp4". I am using Android 2.2 on an HTC Incredible.

Is there any way that a "file URL" can be passed intact to Opera, such as "..."?
