Opera Mail archive slowing Time Machine?

I have been a regular Opera Mail user for many years and thus have a large (5GB or so) archive of emails dating back a while. Ever since my upgrade to Lion I've had troubles with Time Machine taking a while, and am apparently not alone. I highly doubt that Opera is the cause, but just wanted to confirm that Lion would see the individual messages that have been received since the last backup and only copy the new ones over, rather than the full 5GB each time? Seems given the archiving folder system it should just pick up the new additions, but every backup is a suspicious 5GB and takes days, so I wanted to rule out the possibility.

Thanks.

The way Opera stores messages should not be a problem for Time Machine. You should only get new email messages and news feed entries in your backup.

If you’re looking for ways to speed up backups, you could exclude the following folder:
~/Library/Application Support/Opera/mail/lexicon/

Thanks for that. Didn't expect it to be the cause, but I'll try excluding the folder anyway to see what happens.
