Colors are messed up with dark desktop theme - Text Color setting
Hi,Even though I'm using 12.00 alpha Build 1116, this problem has been there with opera since when I first started using linux.
Whenever I use dark desktop theme, some part of Opera's font color gets messed up. Usual suspect is the color of the mail list of the mail window.
In the mail list, both background and frontground colors become very dark and it is very hard to read anything.
First of all, I don't even know how to set the font colors of the mail list. I looked at http://dev.opera.com/articles/view/opera-skinning-part-4-skin-ini-element/ but I could not find any item for the mail list.
In addition, even if items such as [Mail Compose Toolbar Skin] do not respect the Text Color setting in skin.ini file. I set the Font Color as #ffffff but the font color is still black.
It seems there is a bug in Text Color setting processing. Another example is whatever Text Color I set in [Edit Skin], the font color is black.
Thank you,
Joon

If anybody wonders, it's definitely a bug on the part of Opera, because you often have unreadable text (like black text on black background) on Opera's internal pages and panels (such as "Downloads", "Preferences", etc.) without installing any skin or without touching any Opera configuration.
So, I guess it's either 1) difficult to fix or 2) low in priority in the bug queue.
I also wish that within the Opera development team, at least one tester for each platform used a dark theme.

Ryo

A little of both.
In the mean time as a work around you might want to switch off Gtk and KDE integration and use our native toolkit. This will at least allow you to read everything. If Opera is then too bright comparative to your native desktop theme you can look for a dark Opera skin that is at least closer to your working environment.
The pref to control desktop integration is this one: opera:config#FileSelector|DialogToolkit. Switch it to 4, click save and then restart Opera.

Thanks. As you said this worked. (Albeit stuff became a little uglier) Hope this gets fixed soon!

Well I don't know what dark theme you have so it is a little hard to recommend a specific skin but perhaps try these two and if not look around some more.

Alternatively, check the interface colors options:

I once used just these settings to emulate an Ubuntu Look (no extra skins installed)

Thanks a lot for this. Actually some UI parts (ex: scrollbars) had been ugly, and your color setting made them look a lot better.

P.S. Yes, it needs more work but it'll give you some ideas.
