index.ini file in "Mail directory" growing without bound?
I recently learned about file "index.ini" in the Mail directory. E.g.:C:\Users\Peter\AppData\Local\Opera\Opera\mail\index.ini.My own "index.ini" is nearing 480 Kbytes. It contains rubbish accumulated over my many years of using Opera mail (about 7 years). It is likely to be imposing high stresses on my aging Windows XP Pro system.
What are the dependencies? How may I manage / delete content from this index.ini without damaging the rest of Mail; the GUI items, the recent mail searches that I have and wish to keep?
David
Index.ini contains the list of items in the mail panel, and settings associated with those items. This includes most critically your label filtering rules. Also, if have manually dragged messages to labels, these labels will be lost (except when using IMAP with using keywords on those labels) if you remove the index.ini file.
If you remove index.ini, a new one will be generated with the default items for a mail panel. But please note that 480 kb should not a stressful size for this file. I've set up Opera Mail on a new machine in May, receive lots of mail, and got an index.ini of 763 kb now. The item 'Index Count' says '1572' for me.

OK, it is what it is. I'm used to ini files of 50 lines or so. I'll not tilt at this windmill.
In stating that the ini file contains support for GUI elements for mail items the implication is that it won't grow without bound. Even if I don't use an label or "favorite" or whatever, the GUI won't become boundlessly complicated. So, good programming is in place.
Thank you for the guidance.
