I have Mac OS X but my Mac won't accept my downloaded Mac OS X.

Hello

I have just bought a 3-4 year old iMac that runs Mac OS X. I've tried to download several softwares for OS X but get the message from my Mac that "Du kan ikke bruke programmet med denne versjonen av Mac OS X" (norwegian, means "You can't run this software with this version of Mac OS X" in English).

I'm new at Mac, I've used Windows PC's in a lot of years. I'm used with Microsoft software (like Internet Explorer and Outlook Express) and have also used Opera. Internet Explorer have no free version for Mac (no one that I found). And I've never been to satisfied with Safari.

My first choise would be Microsoft Internet Explorer, but they have no MAC version. But Opera have. But when I download Opera and Firefox MAC OS X-versjons (I need an alternative if one of them goes slow or bad) then my Mac tells me when I try to install them that they can't be runned on my version of MAC OS X - even if I have the newest version of MAC OS X (not Lion or Snow Leopard) and have download the newest Opera and Firefox for MAC OS X.

Anyone who knows or might guess the reason?

Is it an Intel Mac or a PowerPC Mac? If it's a PPC, that could be the issue.

You need to download version 10.00 for Macs that are not Intel Macs.

The issue could be either that it's a PPC Mac or it's Mac OS X 10.4. Both PPC's and Mac OS X 10.4 are no longer supported.

For a PPC, download Opera 10.63-

For Mac OS X 10.4 (Intel-only; for Mac OS X 10.4 PPC use the above link for Opera 10.63) download Opera 11.11-

Windows 7 SP1 x86 edition and Windows XP Service Pack 3.
