How to Use the Mail Account Selector

In the mail panel, in addition to the "All Messages", "Attachments" and "Labels" access points etc., there's a you@example.com access point for each account you create. Unlike other access points like "All Messages" that show messages from all accounts at once, each you@example.com access point has views that only show messages for that account. For example, for POP accounts, you'll get "Inbox" and "Sent" views. For IMAP accounts, you'll get a bunch of IMAP folder views.

That's all great. But, the more accounts you have, the more the mail panel fills up. You also have to do a lot of scrolling in the mail panel when you want to look at only messages for a certain account. This also makes views under access points like "All Messages" very chaotic as they show messages from all accounts at once. There's also no "Trash" view under a you@example.com access point, so you have to use the "All Messages/Trash" one that shows messages from all accounts.

There's a better way:

* Click the view button (wrench) on the mail panel toolbar and uncheck all the you@example.com access points.

* Goto "Shift + F12 -> buttons -> mail" and drag the account selector drop-down to the mail panel toolbar.

Then, you just use the account selector to switch to the account you want to work with at the time. Then, views under "All Messages" etc. will only show messages for that account. And, the compose action will default to that account.

That way is so much nicer and makes it so you don't need the individual you@example.com access points at all.

Note that you can also switch accounts by right-clicking in the mail panel and setting "show messages from" to the account you want. You need to use this if you want to select "Feeds" as "Feeds" isn't available in the button drop-down.

Also note that now the account selector switches back to "All accounts" when Opera starts up. This is because users were forgetting that they didn't have it set to "All accounts" and were thinking they lost all their mail for the other accounts.
