How to Import Contacts from Other Mail Clients

Opera uses its own format for storing contacts. If you want to import contacts from another client, you have to convert that client's address book to Opera's adr format.

There are a couple of ways to do this.

* Export your client's address book to csv format.

* Goto <http://hallvord.com/opera/conversion1.htm> and convert it to an adr file.

or

* Export your client's address book to a format that <https://mail.opera.com/> can import, import the file and then export it as an adr file. (You already have a mail.opera.com account if you have a My Opera account.)

or

* For Mac, convert the address book to csv format, import into fastmail and then export in Opera format. See <http://my.opera.com/community/forums/findpost.pl?id=13502042>.

Then, in Opera, goto "Menu -> settings -> import and export -> import Opera contacts".

Also, specifically for Outlook Express csv files, you can convert them to Opera's adr format with the Outlook Express CSV Abook Converter widget.

Note: Opera removed support for widgets, so nevermind on the Outlook Express converter widget. But, you can make a standalone installation of Opera 11.64 (see <http://www.opera.com/browser/download/?os=windows&list=all>) to a folder on your desktop. Then, click the link to the widget to install it. Then you'll be able to use it.
