How to Manually Update a Newsgroup Subscription List

When you goto "Menu -> Mail -> Newsgroups", each account has a group subscription list. You check the box next to the groups you want to subscribe to.

Opera caches the group subscription list for each account. And, it doesn't check if the list has any new groups for a week.

If the list for an account has new groups added to it and you want Opera to show them in the list now instead of at the next update time so you can subscribe to them now, you have to manually update the list, which you can do in 2 different ways.

In the mail folder, there's a .newsrc file for each newsgroup account that contains the cached list of groups for the account. You can close down Opera and edit the file with a text editor and type in the entries for the new groups.

Or, in the mail folder, you can close down Opera and edit "incomingN.txt" (where n is the number for the newsgroup account and seen in accounts.ini) for the account. You need to set the "last_updated value to 0 so that when Opera starts, it checks the list on the server for updates.

If needed, you can set the last_updated time and delete the newsrc file so Opera downloads a completely new one.

Opera weirdly has no refresh list button, so that's all you can do.
