Java Not Working

Hello,

I just recently installed the latest version of Opera on a new Windows 7 x64 machine, and then I installed the latest version of Java (both x86 and x64). Unfortunately Java doesn't seem to be working in Opera (but it does work in both 32-bit and 64-bit IE). Whenever a page contains a Java applet, I see the Java logo with the halo around it going round and round. Does anyone else have the same problem? Any solutions?

Thank you for any help,
Paul

There is no option to download a 64 bit version of Opera for Windows, so you will need the 32 bit version of Java. You could check to make sure plug-ins are enabled. O-menu > Settings > Preferences > Advanced > Content. Is Enable plug-ins checked? Type  opera:plugins   in the address bar. Java should be detected if it's installed.

Hi Choope,

Plug-ins are enabled and Java appears in the opera:plugins page. Here's a screenshot from that page:

Any other suggestions?

Thank you,
Paul

That's not the latest version of Java. Try uninstalling it and going with JRE 7.

I just uninstalled JRE 6 (which I found on Java.com) and installed JRE 7 from the Oracle site. I still have the same problem as before. sad

Anyone have any ideas as to what could be causing this?

Thank you,
Paul

Java went away over a year ago for me. Getting it back has been .. not worth my time. But when you post your
paths that really helps me.

My installs of Opera ver
8, 9, 10, 11 and 12 aren't always in c:\program files ..
and the USB type installled on a hard drive aren't really even 'in' the OS's registry .. are they?

So that makes JAVA hard to attach to Opera. Knowing the paths helps .. Now if we could just have a simple how to
Something like this

1) Edit the operaprefs.ini so that the path for plugins is xxxxxxx (whatever it could or should be)
2) Move these Java files to that folder
3) whatever else
4) Opera should be running with JAVA

Could it be that simple?
IF so .. please. Someone who's got the intimate knowledge of making JAVA work with instructions like those .. help out please.

It's so very needed.
Thank you
