Opera Mini 4.4

Today we have a new update of Opera Mini 4 for you yes The main focus of this release has been to bring the network features in Opera Mini 4 up to the same level as in Opera Mini 6.5. This opens up new possibilities for your network operator to integrate services like free Opera Mini browsing to certain sites, and hopefully it makes it easier for you to connect. There are no major user visible features in this release, but we have chosen to call it 4.4 since there are significant changes to the network code. Apart from that we have fixed skin issues for some Samsung devices.

Opera Mini 4.4 is mainly for low-end devices that are not capable of running Opera Mini 6.5. The download system will suggest the best version for your device. Just visit http://m.opera.com/ on your phone and you will get the version best suited for your device. Or you can visit http://www.opera.com/mobile/download/pc/ on your PC.

As always, we welcome your feedback in our forum, and please report any bugs in our bug report wizard. Thanks!

Regards,
The Opera Mini Team

My nokia 6233 supports Opera mini 6.
But i've been forced to use opera mini 4 for the following drawbacks in opera mini 6.

1. #3 for page-top, page-bottom
2. 1-key menu: I simply love to selectively load images
3. Easier page save and bookmark handling
4. Customized search PLUS the shortcut #9 to quickly search with your prefered search engine.
5. URL History

Everytime opera released a new build, i'd expect these things in the new build since OM5.
Opera guys, why can't these simple features be implemented in OM6?

How does it work? Do operators have to add some software part to Opera Mini at a phone in order to get the new function to work, or is it only unveiling our connection with Opera servers?

Presumable changing the protocol can affect mini servers, http://0.facebook.com/ for vodafone users must be tested.

Ahhhh come on guys whom are you fooling???

This is just to shut complaints from J2ME users. We all know that you're concerned with Android and not J2ME. This should have been a silent update since there's no changes but "network code" upgrade. I can't customly select a search engine so pls don't say this is the same as Opera Mini 6.1

I'm like, argh I don't care!

No comment for this version cos its a ghost version, no changes no fooling around!

In South Africa when I use my native browser and goto http://live.vodafone.com I browse it freely. I just tried it with the so-called Opera Mini 4.4 but I'm being redirected to Germany's Vodafone mobi site... So truely this is just to smoke up complaints... :-(

it's more like the way tested, 'http' is for HTTP only. Check http, save and test again, you will notice that the best connection type is what you choose manually. Can you confirm that for 'http' eventually connection test is required again since any other action can't make opera mini functionable (let's say after 10-20 links)? I've observed such a behavior with my device, also opera mini tend to freeze more than usual (sync with more than 300 bookmarks).

http://browserspy.dk/connections.php apparently max connections are set to 20 instead 10? I can't figure out why the host jump around with all mini versions, in history (30 pages) is noted z10-10, z06-05, z59-16, z10-10 (again, one page), z27-11 alternate with z59-16 as turing remote.

Free up some storage space on your device, the idea is to detect the correct amount of memory as metric expression and some bogus apps already installed can alter this parameter. Opera mini is tested and must work on that device after clear install performed right after reboot when max. heap size is readed.

Contact your provider if that device is tailored with some goody specs for operators or official rokr support forum where you should ask 'why root certificates are not (pre)installed on my device'.

Please add tab browsing option in low memory java phone version, or please make lite version for 6.5, OM 4.4 is still not like bolt browser (which is sadly discontinued) but it was best browser for java phone with low memory.

Hi,

I really like the Opera 4.4. It's really fast and capable.

I do however have a really annoying issue with it: when I am using Opera on wi-fi signal on my phone it doesn't load the whole webpage that I am trying to access. Sometimes it is loading half of the webpage, sometimes it is loading only a few pics and a little text. I have to refresh until it loads better.

I would also like if the next update would include tabbrowsing.

Cheers!

Same problem. I had OperaMini 4.2 installed before. Using the internet from my phone provider (Vodafone) is ok, no problems there. But when using wi-fi for even faster loading it just won't load the whole page. Hope to see some improvements in the next update.

Thanks for your response!

You can help us recognize it properly if you go to http://m.opera.com/detect using the phone's built in browser and add relevant information there. Thanks!

We had it very briefly, and then it couldn't start 6.5, but would give a java error when you started it. You should try 4.4.

I don't think that your Opera Mini has been fully installed because of internet connection failure.
To end installing process there must be an i-net connection.
If OM is properly installed then when is turned on there is visible at start a progress bar with the word "Loading...".

Opera mini 4.4 does not downloads the original size image. It downloads the image of low quality than that available to download.

Images are compressed only, the file size is reduced around 15% but the resolution remains the same.
In the browser set an image quality to "Large", download a picture and then check it out.

This does not work, Perthomas!

My mobile phone = Sony Ericsson W810i

Opera Mini 4.2 was excellent.
Sadly it stopped responding to JAVA.
I tried to re-download 4.2 and it was overwritten by 4.4
.....but 4.4 constantly tries to "install", freezes my O/S and I have to reboot.
I have gone through this process twice.

I already have Opera Mini 6.5 working, but did not use it as it is not as efficient as 4.2 and its look is gaudy and low-brow.
Now, because my 4.4 is defective and has removed the preferred 4.2, I am forced to use 6.5 against my choice.
I am not happy using 6.5. I have already posted two queries today on that browser.

So, regarding Opera Mini 4.2/4.4, please can you advise me....

How do I get this seemingly defective Opera Mini 4.4 to install correctly on my Sony Ericsson W810i? (which is quite capable of handling the much larger 6.5)
or....
How do I re-download Opera Mini 4.2, which is the only truly efficient Opera browser I have found?

I have also posted this as an individual topic but I wanted to grab your personal attention, Perthomas, as you seem to be the expert.

Thank you

I confirm WillGolden's demand. Many users of Opera Mini needs a link to download the signed version 4.2, in their native languages as well.
I declare here such a demand on behalf of the Polish version users of the Opera Mini 4.2.

http://m.opera.com/se (signed 4.2) w810 may have some bugs in java system, better was mini4.0 version (signed 4.0 http://m.opera.com/g ). First 'Dimension' was extensively tested on k750 which is close to w810 performance.

There is some similarity between the K750i and W810i, albeit D/K750i is JP-5 (Java Platform) and W810i is JP-6,
therefore lack of JSR 205 and JSR 172 on D/K750. For this reason, some discrepancies may here occur.
WMA 2.0 (JSR-205) relates to the Wireless Messaging API 2.0 which is an extension and enhancement of WMA (JSR-120).
GSM SMS, GSM Cell Broadcast (CBS), and MMS are supported although JSR-172 relates to the Java ME Web Services 1.0.
The JSR-205 specification can be downloaded from here

The latest now Java Platform version for Sony Ericsson phones is JP-8.5 which is 3 steps more advanced than JP-8.0.
SE JP-8.5 phones: Aino, Cedar, Elm, Hazel, Xperia Pureness X5, Yari, Zylo.

SE K850i as seen on the screenshot is JP-8.0.

Thank you for your descriptive presentation, I was thinking to phone performance generally speaking where java platform does not have a particularly impact. It's well known (or not) that sony ericsson devices always had the most advanced java platform up to date.

I have a V3i which is fully unlocked and debranded, which will be used on virgin

I am old and easily confused (too much medication) and cannot understand how to install opera mini 4.4.

I have downloaded both files to my computer (jar & jad) and copied them to the phone... I cannot download direct to the phone as the browser doesn't work.

how do I install opera mini to the phone..... I have motorola phone tools on the computer.

I need simple step-by-step instructions as I have been completely confused trying to work out how and what menu presses etc.

You're old but also a newbie p

The thing what you need to do is only to move Opera Mini 4.4.jar in your memory card and it should work.
Try and feedback here if it works....

Then I have a trick.
Go to My Computer. Click on Tools on menu bar. Then select second tab at the top of the window. In the list, uncheck 'Hide file extensions'. Click apply and ok.

Now rename the extension of the file.
E.g. name of file is Opera Mini 4.jar then rename it to Opera Mini 4_jar.

Then move it to the SD Card of your phone. Now rplace the '_' with '.' (dot).
Then see if you can open the app.

Try it and feedback here smile

I have an lg kp170. I downloaded and installed opera mini 4.4 and it works fine for as long as I want, but if I close it and restart the app, it doesn't connect to the net any more. Connection test doesn't work either. In order to be able to use it again I have to use the phone browser and reinstall mini opera. I tried changing settings but with no results.

Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

I have various Operas - 4.3/4/5/6/12 with Symbian - s40 - Blackberry. I find that in some instances 4 series is my preferred although i can use many others. Sometimes it's simplicity and ultra light weight on the go is better for me. I don't like flab some i do not use 7 with the start page. Even though i know it can be deselected. Personally the start page don't work for me and there are many dedicated progs for my mobile that do that and news far better. I would raver not carry extra of something i'm not going to use. I use 6.5.27055 and i'm looking for 6.5 for my blackberry instead of the 7.

Apart from the "weight" of OM 4.x variants [≈5.5 MB RAM], this versions are faster than the OM 7.0 and more comfortable to use,
especially when changing the display mode for pages with <-> without images, sorting folders for saved pages, changing the search engines and so on.
Besides, the pages are displayed larger here than in OM 7.0, on the forum one can find comparative screenshots.
Register of visited pages (30) fulfills a similar function as the tabs in OM 7.0. Practically the only inconvenience in OM 4.x is the lack of copy and paste option.

Opera Software has announced that version 4.4 of its Opera Mini web browser for Java J2ME based devices, including many feature phones, is now available. This update adds some of the improved networking features found in the smartphone version of Opera Mini 6.5, and also includes bug fixes pertaining to logging into Opera Link and some user interface issues.
