How to Defrag Opera's Mail Files

If mail operations in Opera are running a little slower than normal, some of the mail files might be fragmented and defragmenting them might help.

There are a few different ways to defrag Opera's mail files. Just make sure you close down Opera first.

* Just defrag your whole hard drive using your OS's defrag program or some 3rd-party defrag program.

* Move the file/folder to another drive and then move it back.

* Right-click on the file/folder and choose "copy". Then, right-click on the folder it's in and choose "paste" to create a copy of the file/folder. Then, delete the original. Then, rename the copy to have the name of the original.

* On Windows, use Contig on the command line to defrag just Opera's mail files.

For example, in a Win7 command prompt, you'd type these commands:

cd "%LocalAppData%\Opera\Opera"
set "path=path_to_directory_contig.exe_is_in;%path%"
contig -s "mail\*.*"

Usually, you only need to defrag the database (omailbase.dat) and the indexer files in the indexer and lexicon folders, and maybe index.ini.
