Displace the small plus mouse pointer when dragging text in forms

As for now when i type in forms and want to select some text and drag it in different place, the mouse pointer gets the icon with small plus on it. Unfortunately, that icon with plus sign is just at the top of the mouse pointer, so it really hides the place where I want to drag the selection. E.g. in this form where I'm typing this message, when I want to drag a word between other words, it covers the space and the last symbol of the previous word and the first symbol of the next word, so I actually don't see, where exactly this selection will be placed.

Can you please place that small plus icon at the left or right bottom of the mouse pointer?
Thank you!

Hi,
there are no any blinking cursor, only this icon with small plus and the mouse pointer holding it. That's all. No cursors. I'm on Win 7, Opera 11.52.

Yes, I can guess where I drop a selection, it is the middle of the plus but this is not friendly. When it hides the dragging goes slower.

Hi, in OOo and Firefox it is bottom right of cursor, but one need to hold Control button for it to appear, then it will copy selection, otherwise it will move it. I think it is OK, what do you think?

I use this feature much, but I see what you mean.

On your setup, do you get a blinking cursor that is barely visible just above the plus sign icon? I do with WinXPsp3 and Opera 11.01, but there is also a rectangle of gray highlighting behind the plus sign icon, and the blinking cursor only barely protrudes above the gray highlighting. If I'm dropping on the last line of some text, I can simple move the mouse pointer down and the plus sign and gray highlighting are pulled out of the way, leaving the blinking cursor completely visible; but trying to see it when there are lines of text below the target drop area is much more difficult.

However, I notice that the blinking cursor lines up exactly with the vertical line in the plus icon on my system, so it's pretty easy to gauge exactly where the drop will occur by using the plus sign like a target crosshair. Being able to see the blinking cursor would be more reassuring, though.

For me it's the same narrow blinking cursor I have in any text-box when I'm typing. But I just played with it some more and realized the blinking cursor is only there if I am dragging something into the text-box from outside the text-box (like a hyperlink), which is the only way I ever use it (and that is rare).

But if I highlight some text inside the text-box and drag it somewhere else in the text-box, I don't have a blinking cursor either.

For me the plus sign is not only helpful, I would consider it necessary (to know when I've actually succeeded at picking something up to drag). But it seems it would work OK if it were on the side of the mouse pointer instead of right at the point. I get an hour-glass beside the mouse pointer sometimes (e.g., when refreshing a page), so I tried playing with that a bit as if it were the plus sign, and it seems like the plus sign would not be in the way at all if it were off to the side like the hour-glass is, but would still let me know I've grabbed something.

Where do you think it would work better?

Seems like anywhere near the mouse pointer that leaves the tip of the pointer free and clear (i.e., to either side or below) would work fine.
