Transfer speed on wireless network
I have a SBC 2Wire Modem/Router with 6mb dsl (That I usually only get 5mb with)I have my laptop connected to this main computer via a network (with the router). Did I describe my setup enough?
I've transferred a few files back and forth but they were relatively small files. Today I tried to transfer a 6 GB file. It said it was going to take 45 minutes (reported speed via the Windows dialog was 2.4 mb).
Should it be faster then that?

Ended up hard wiring it (laptop to router). That got me 11.2 MB/second. I thought it should have been faster being hardwired. Anyone in the know about these thing thinking the same?

I get significantly faster speeds within 1-2 meters, or also within 6-7 meters for that matter. I have to go to the back of the apartment (I guess about 15-20m away) before it gets down to speeds of around 2.5MBps. I'd hypothesize that perhaps your router only does 11Mbps, except 2.5MBps is too fast a speed for that*.

My wireless router supports up to 108Mbps, though I didn't think my laptop supported over 54Mbps. Logic dictates it must, however, for I can get up to about 10MBps from it while I'm in the same room as the router.

My router as well as my and my wife's desktop computers support 1Gbps LAN, which is even faster.
* Why are these speeds given in megabits rather than megabytes anyhow? A slip of the shift key and you're saying something completely different and no consumer cares about the speed in megabites.
