Disable label key auto-setting

Whenever I add a new label, the keyboard set letter (L + [letter]) for all subsequent labels usually changes. This typically and frustratingly messes up my ability to quickly add messages from Unread to labels for some period of time.

I can find no way to manually specify what key a label should have, and I shudder to think what will happen when I have more labels than letters-used-in-labels. I'm also a bit perplexed by the lack of other posts (according to search) about this issue.

Anyway, request either the ability to lock in or specify the shortcut letter for a label, or better information on where to find this option.

Thanks.

The labels are always ordered alphabetically, and the access keys are assigned automatically (as in almost all menus in Opera) by picking the first letter in the menu item that is not already taken by an earlier item in the same menu. So adding labels, especially with names that make them end up on top of the menu, will indeed be likely to cause changes in access key for items below them.

In case there are no free letters or numbers available anymore, the first letter of the menu item is used - that means that there will be multiple items with the same access key, and you'll have to press the access key repeatedly until the item you want is selected, then press Enter.

Yes, this is exactly the behaviour I wish(list) to be able to override so it ceases to mess with my workflow. Thank you for your attention.

Probably not many people using so many custom labels. You can edit the names of existing labels when adding a new label and define the access key by using an ampersand & before the desired letter.

Which is surprising now that labels are the only way to quickly group messages. Or Opera doesn't have many small-business users. I only have 13 labels including the standards, but anytime I add on beginning with A... and "To Do" (suddenly changed from L-T to L-O) is quite near the bottom of the list.

Thanks for that tip, it should be added to the main user documentation for using labels (http://www.opera.com/browser/tutorials/mail/sort/).
It's half-a-step in the right direction - problem is, the ampersands are showing up in the side panel (happily not in the L popup). I can live with that when they're at the beginning of the label, but it is a bit harsh on readability of the list overall.
