Strange problem and solution
I have Unite running my website on a junk computer under my desk.I have been running 10.10 successfully for almost two years with virtually
no maintenance. This computer has only Opera on it. It has NO other programs
loaded and is never used for anything else. It worked great this way.
But recently a strange problem cropped up. When someone connected to my
website, they would get connected, then get the message "Waiting for (website)"
...and there it would hang. No page would ever get loaded on the user's computer.
When I would check my server status, it would say that "Opera is running fine".
If I closed Opera and then restarted the program, it would work fine for a few
minutes or even an hour, then the "Waiting for..." would begin again.
Weird.
Finally, today I uninstalled Opera completely, then I defragged the hard
drive on the server. Then I reinstalled Opera and ZINGO!
All has been well since. (keeping my fingers crossed!)
What is amazing to me is that it ran just GREAT for almost
TWO YEARS before any oddities showed up!

It could have been something like a Windows update to the network driver that disrupted Opera. Just restarting should have solved that problem as well.
PS, why don’t you want any search engines on your site?

Daniel, Opera was closed down and restarted many times and the problem
would reoccur soon after. I even shut down the computer and restarted
it with no improvement.
Couldn't be a Windows update problem because I have Windows update
turned off.
Defragging the drive seems to have cured it. Been running fine
ever since, for about two weeks now.
No search engines 'cause my isp prohibits running a website at
home on a residential connection. Don't need to call attention to
it with a lot of traffic.
Years ago when I was with a different isp that didn't care, my little
site was quite busy all the time. Then I started getting emails
and PHONE CALLS from assorted weirdos! One nut called me
long distance from TEXAS and left several rambling messages
on my answering machine! Don't need that.
The link is in all my emails for my many friends to look at
the site. Just my personal little corner of the internet, Daniel.

P.S. Daniel, just realized that today is November 9th.
It was on this date exactly two years ago that I started
running the website with Unite. Except for the recent
oddity that I wrote about above, I have had ZERO
problems with Unite!
I'm quite happy with it.
Still running 10.10 by the way. Saw no need to upgrade.
(if it ain't broke, don't fix it.
