Problems with XML parsing failed

Visit http://www.mgmgrand.com/

You will get a xml parsing failed message with the option to Reparse document as HTML. Yep, that gets you to the main page. Now, try clicking on Hotel, Restaurants, etc. That also fails xml but tryping to reparse as html gives a blank page. Works in IE, FF.

This is why 2 of my friends switched away from Opera (I never will). Doesn't matter if the page is miscoded or works if you mask as something else, they were just tired of it. Me, I'm tired of it also.

The problem is not with Opera. It is the site that is browser sniffing and sending different and faulty code to Opera. Try right clicking or F12 > Edit Site Preferences > Network tab and set to Mask as Firefox or IE. Then reload the page and it works. Write to the site admin and inform them of this problem. Some pages on mcaffee. com presently have this problem too, and they won't fix it. See Error XML parsing failed on home.mcafee.com......aspx   Starbucks once had this problem, and they fixed it. See this thread: Starbucks.com XML Pase Error

Realize that I myself am never going to switch away from Opera.

But according to my friends if it works in FF & IE and not in Opera then Opera is broken. It doesn't matter to them that if you change something in Opera it will work. The point is they don't want to have to change anything in Opera to make it work, ergo: to them its broken.

Yeah I know that but others don't and they will always think Opera is broken when it doesn't work in Opera and it works in IE or FF.

No longer with Opera 12. Opera 12 and above will auto-reparse XML code as HTML if it contains errors that violate XML well-formedness rules. Try it yourself - go to http://home.mcafee.com/Default.aspx with Opera 11.52 and Opera 12 build 1116 (Opera Next) and see the difference.

That's an ignorant way for them to look at the situation (probably because they're ignorant in this area).

You should educate them that it is often a site problem. You can even prove this. You can also show an example page that works in Opera and not in IE and Firefox because of browser sniffing to prove the point that IE and Firefox can appear to be broken because of a site problem too. For Firefox for example, you could even use the UA switcher extension to id as Opera and show them how Firefox chokes on the same content Opera gets. There's all kinds of things you can do.

Knowing this, they should be complaining to the site.

If they *still* think it's just Opera, then they're just being stubborn.

But, as Swapnil99pro said, Opera's been working on stuff to work around issues like this one. That says a lot about Opera as they're fixing things that aren't even Opera's fault.

My friends aren't ignorant in this area, nor are they newbies when it comes to computer. They both know they *could* fix it by going to site preferences. They are just tired of doing so. It just doesn't matter to them that its the web masters miscoding that has *broken* Opera.

They both know this. It just doesn't matter to them.

No they aren't stubborn. The point here is that they are just tired of having to change things in Opera to make a site work. For whatever reason both of these guys end up browsing sites that don't work in Opera. On top of that they've never had a problem with IE or FF and now Chrome at any of the sites *they* browse to.

I think the current point here is this. I'm a very die hard Opera guy and will never switch. I only know 4 people that use Opera and now 2 of them have switched away from it. How many others have switched away from it because of *broken* websites?

Cool, it works at both sites now. Nice advances for Opera. Can't wait to get the finished 12.

I agree. If you don't want to have to deal with broken sites as much, you should use another browser. Nothing wrong with that at all. And, you don't even have to care why or whose fault it is. But, even if you don't care, I still think it's good to know where the fault lies.

I don't recommend Opera to many averages users because they all use Hotmail and Yahoo and the situation with Opera there is really bad.
