Auto-select dictionary for spellchecker!

The spell checker is great, but for us non-native English speakers (or any multilingual peeps), we have to switch frequently between English and whatever native language we use.

It would be absolutely great if I could configure the spell checker not just to use one specific dictionary (which I have to switch all the time) but have it auto-select the one with the least number of errors (as that is most likely the language being used).

If you want to go advanced, for people who have tons of languages installed or so, you could even allow making a selection of some languages and just auto-select amongst those few, or something like that.

Thanks for considering this!

That's just what I've been missing for a long time!
By the way, if I choose certain language from context menu, it should no longer auto-detect language on this page in this textarea.

stupid idea, I - or anybody else I know - don't switch my keyboard layout just because I type english ... maybe russians and chinese do, but nobody who uses latin keyboards anyhow.

I've seen this kind of solution in TheBat! client.
You can select a few dictionaries for spell-checking at the same time.
Finally, I switched to Firefox due to irritating sites incompatibilities.

as stupid as your reply. if you write in german, opera checks english and it's okay for you? all right

What does that have to do with keyboard layout? We are talking about dictionaries here and we want Opera to automatically identify the language of the text and switch to the corresponding language dictionary for spell-check - something I vote +1

+1, it's required switch dictionary language if keyboard layout switched, especially for languages like a russian or chinese, etc...

Please keep the keyboard layout out of the equation. MS Word already messed up with this BIGTIME.

My keyboard layout is fixed. The language I type in, however, is not.

I have an English (i.e. standard international) keyboard. I use this single keyboard to type English, German, French, Dutch, and Spanish, depending on whatever sites I visit.

+1 for auto detection.

For short messages I am tempted not to bother changing dictionaries as I would have to change it back again afterwards. This puts me at risk!

Option to detect with one of these methods:
  • the words I have already typed.
  • other words on the page not in the edit area. (email reply etc.)
  • use multiple dictionaries simultaneously (not preferred)

I would kindly like to bump this topic, as I still get annoyed by having to switch language for every different form, website, etc.

Can you please either add an option to:

- Make the spell checker autodetect between some selected language
or
- Make the spell checker remember the language per URL / page / input field

Or both smile

Thanks a lot, this would really give Opera an (well, yet another) advantage over Firefox!

I would be fine with a keyboard shortcut to switch the language (with the new language be displayed for a second in a tooltip).
