Weird issue with address bar Google search
Since the most recent upgrade (11.52), I've been having a weird issue with Google search from the address bar. No matter what I type in, it takes me to www.google.com rather than to direct results. The address bar field is working when I hit enter, it just doesn't take me to the results like it used to, instead taking me to google's home page with no search terms entered/submitted/displayed. A screenshot is attached. Has anyone else seen this? I did a forum search and found a number of other google search issues, but not quite this. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance...
I had the same issue after the last update, but luckily I just found a simple fix. Go to google.com and right-click in the search blank, then use "Create search..." to add Google to your search engine list again. Then you can delete the original (broken) Google search engine list entry and get back to searching as normal.
I believe that's happening because google is making secure searches i.e. https site default for logged in users and when a search is made via the address bar it automatically goes to non-secure site which is redirected to the secure one. So you see the main google site not your search results.
Thanks! This was driving me nuts. When creating the search, don't forget to add the keyword initial too. If you don't the "OK" will be gray'ed out. Took me a while to figure that one out too! LOL
