Shift + Delete to permanently delete notes and bookmarks

I started a thread a long time ago asking for Shift + Delete to delete a note or bookmark completely instead of sending it to the trash can (as in OSs)... I don't know why I abandoned it since I'm still affected by the lack of this functionality today having double work on deleting the note(s) and then emptying the trash can.

On my original thread Pesala told me I could customize the keyboard shortcuts to get this but I tried it and it doesn't work. So here I am again, I'd really like to have this implemented.

It still works fine for me, both for notes and bookmarks.
Make sure that you have defined the shortcuts in the correct context.

Thanks for trying to help me again but it doesn't work.

I won't define del shift to "cut", I want to have my clipboard untouched.

Del shift is already defined as "cut".. unless you've removed this default shortcut. Works in all editable text fields.

they don't work

That's not a very helpful error description. The shortcuts work here as expected. What exactly "doesn't work"? The key combination? (Try a different one - preferable a unique combination). The action? (test with a different action). What happens anyway? Still deleting to trash? Nothing visible? Where do you try to use the shortcut? Bookmarks panel or bookmark manager? In which centext did you define? Bookmarks witget or bookmarks panel?. Please do your own testing and try to pin down the cause of your problem.

Selecting a bookmark without opening it can be tricky. Click + Drag sideways is about the best I could find. If course, if the bookmark is not actually selected, Shift Delete won't do anything.

I haven't removed anything.

Set the shortcut. Select a note in the notes panel, press Shift + Delete. Nothing happens.

This is weird. It worked perfectly yesterday, today it works sometimes in a kind of halloweenish fashion: One minute it would work in no context at all, the other minute it would work even if I removed all references....very strange. I couldn't find a stable and reliable pattern, also defining a context menu item wouldn't work. And it's not the shortcut, it's the "delete permanently" action that is causing trouble.
I can only assume that "delete permanently" was designed for mail items. That's were it is used (and not without problems ) and that it's not designed to be used with bookmarks or notes. It's also a relatively new action...my Opera 9.25 doesn't yet know it.

Are you sure you don't perform a "cut" command? Try to paste somewhere after shift deleting a bookmark. I just tested again and was thrilled that the bookmark was deleted without going to trash, only to find out now that the bookmarked URL is in the clipboard.

I see. Yes, that is what is happening, but it achieves the desired aim — removing the bookmark without sending it to the trash.

If you don't want to use the clipboard I guess you could use:

Shift Del = Delete & Empty Trash
or
Alt Del if you still want to use Shift del for cut and paste of bookmarks

That does seem to work as expected, without affect the Cut shortcut elsewhere.
Though that will also permanently delete any other bookmarks that are in the trash.
