Sadly no, if you press the back key it stays in the ram as a background process so the only way to close is with the task manager and if you on a phone that's short on ram it is seriously annoying, so until they add a proper exit option you just got te keep clearing the memory everytime you finish.

There is no Android 2.6. :/ You can go to manage applications and stop it from there.
There are a lot of articles that state you should let Android manage its RAM and don't force close anything. If Android needs RAM it will reclaim it. That way you will have quick access to apps already in RAM instead of waiting for them to load.
Scottb is correct. If you leave Opera Mini idle in the background for a long period of time, your android will close it to make RAM available for other apps.
As far as I know, the latest ver. for android is 2.3. Unless you're referring to the Kernel ver. which is 2.6
