Restore blog statistics action

I want ask people who are writing their blogs about more advanced visitors statistics (currently there is only visitor counter). Wouldn't be nice to see which articles on your blog page visitors are interested in?

This is what Opera replied to me:

"What kind of statistics would you like? Make a request on the Forums and we might be able to help you!"

So.. if you are interested, please reply what kind of statistics would you like to see?
Please send this to your friends who may be interested smile

I would like to have at least what we had before, but I am most interested in:
- top pages
- visits per pages
- visitors (both recurrent and unique) per page
- keep currently available grand total
- it would be definitely needed to have some kind of daily/weekly/monthly/quarterly/yearly statistics, too
- if it's possible, it would be also nice to have referrals and via which search engine a user got to a particular page, geografical listing, top visitor by IP or Internet Provider.

I agree with patkoscsaba.

I just now realized statistics had been turned off. When did that happen? Guess I've been busy. I sometimes checked to see what states or countries people were from who were looking at my blog and what they typed in 'search' to end up on my blog.

I never noticed the Hitslink stats were gone, as they were largely useless. Unfortunately so, as stats in general are important.

If I had to choose just one statistic to see, that would be the referrers. Daily visitor and visit count would be nice, too.

I'd like to suggest that The My Opera dev team could install awStats. It's open source and highly configurable. up .

Why Open the Web?

Despite the connecting purpose of the Web, it is not entirely open to all of its users. When used correctly, HTML documents can be displayed across platforms and devices. However, many devices are excluded access to Web content.

Absolutely bring back our stats. I know we can't have HitsLink, but there has to be a free app out there somewhere Opera can use.

Plus one. It's been several months now with nothing happening regarding this. After Hitslink went out, we were ensured by guys from Opera that they're "working hard" on this matter and that they will provide us with a solution very soon. Not only that didn't happen, we can't see any progress being achieved at all sad

For me, referrers and IP addresses are most important.

Although I'm not stopping the members asking for a better site statistics feature, they should know some of us resent having our usage tracked at all, especially by a third party service that may pass on the information to other vendors. I have blocked hitslink cookies and will block if Opera choose to have a partnership with another third party usage tracking service.

Just my 10 cents.

Even if the OC offered only basic info, like "Geo-location" guesses, date/time of visit, and pages visited and (maybe) referral page. The counter feels useless because there's no context about what it's really counting.

That said, "If you give a mouse a cookie..." -- I wouldn't want a huge development, personally, just enough to give a sense of what's being read and what's ignored.

Even if OC offered heavily redacted logs (no IP, no browser info, or anything that could be PII) it'd be interesting.

It is fun to see why, how and where visitors arrive at your blog.

The statistics received from hitslink were over 300,000 to my blog.
The statistics from THE OC counter is less than half of that.
Never understood the wide discrepancy. Plus, hitslink only counted the initial click to the page.

Anyway, I still love Opera! It's the best!
Enjoy, there's flowers blooming somewhere. heart

Note that this method does not allow you to get referrer information (from where your visitors are being referred to your blog, like from a search engine... etc), and it does not tell you what posts in your blog they visit. It's pretty useless if you want to find out which kind of posts are more popular on your blog, how people are finding out about your blog, and where they spend their time.

I tend to disagree with you adelamro. Yes, statcounter's solution is not as elaborate as the previous statistics were but I have at least some detailed information:
- visits and visitors per day/week/etc
- location and network (ISP) of the visitors
- visit times and returning visitors
- and I can see each page visit separately at least in 3 different statistics: Popular Pages, Entry Pages and Exit Pages.

So, until Opera devs implement a better solution, this is the way better than a simple number on the "Account" page.

Oh, I honestly did not realize one can view per-page hits. I have no idea how I missed that. Thanks. Indeed, this is better than the simple visitor count number. Still, referrer information would be quite nice to have.

After you subscribe to statcounter, they give you that text to include as html or xhtml. In that text locate an img tag, extract the image name and put it as background-image to #main in you custom css... if I remember correctly that's all I did.

Thanks for the help, but it's not working for some reason. I'm sure I made it right this time:

1' Located the img address
2' Pasted this code in my UserCSS:
/* Invisible Web Analytics from StatCounter */
 #main {
 background-image: url('http://c.statcounter.com/7435347/0/n213g9f4/1/');
 }

/the real alphanumeric code in the img address is different, this is only for illustration/
3' Selected 'Use my CSS alongside with the theme CSS.

I tried changing my Project's URL to http://my.opera.com/tomica and http://my.opera.com/tomica/blog and neither worked.

Perhaps the problem is that in the code that I was instructed to put in my User CSS I'm determing background image for #main, but that id doesn't exist in my blog's DOM. Is there anyone who actually has this stats service working?

I take that back. Apparently it was working all the time. I was only stuck at the code validation step. So for those who'd like to use Statcounter stats, it needs to be said that you should skip the code validation step, because it will not validate, but it will still work. Thanks Csaba for your help.

I blogged on Blogspot until Google deprecated IE7 (and have never been Opera friendly). Bringing the blog back here, I brought back Celebrity reader/s.
It's annoying, Opera could give us all our own sub-domain instead of just a /folder of the main site...
Suntana.opera.com or Nerak.opera.com.
Then javascript tracking and coding wouldn't pose such a problem.
