Opera Mini 6.5 for Java and BlackBerry!
Since Opera Mini 6.5 was released for Android we have seen a lot of requests for 6.5 for Java and BlackBerry. Today I'm pleased to announce that we have a new version ready for you
Opera Mini 6.5 for Java and BlackBerry has the following new features:
Data usage
We have added a new entry in the help menu that shows you approximately how much data you have saved by using Opera Mini compared to loading the full page.
Bookmark star
For those that have touch devices we have added a convenient way to bookmark a page. Just click the star in the address field and then "Add to Bookmarks".
Pinch-zoom for BlackBerry
If you have a BlackBerry touch device running OS 6.0 or better, you can now use pinch zoom.
Protocol setting
In the 6.1 release we removed the protocol setting. This setting has now returned so that you can choose to either use HTTP or let the client choose automatically.
Saved pages
We have improved the handling of old saved pages. You can now delete or re-download pages saved with previous versions of Opera Mini.
To download Opera Mini 6.5 visit http://m.opera.com/ on your phone or http://www.opera.com/mobile/download/pc/ on your PC.
Please report any bugs in our bug report wizard. Thanks!

Both html/socket-html options can't stop the host to jump around, connection is not stable with all versions mini4-6 with the same host per session (at least 4 different hosts are reported in server status for a 30 pages history) also that affect the loading speed, best connection being found via lvs proxy instead generic mini5.
Apparently connection is keep-alive but my provider send octet-stream/chunked gateway info (http only type), that could be the problem?
But I think it is possible(better) that hidden tittle bar, adds barand search bar with physical keyboard,it only add V(search) P(forward) C(cycle tabs) Del(close tab) and "alt" instead of" *" etc.
It's better that User Defined Global Keyboard Shortcuts on blackberry .

Definitely not related with tactile senses, at least I don't know how to input your statement.
Opera has a hidden Chinese version with three SD pages nine cells in each one.
Showing the data usage will be a great "selling" point (can't really have a selling point if you give it away, though!) in this era of metered data. Also an interesting tool on the board I run - it clearly shows the difference between my standard skin and my mobile skin. My standard skin is seeing well over 90% compression (and that's without too many graphics) and the mobile about 60% (which is a bit more than I'd have expected).
The bookmark shortcut will get me to use it more.
I don't save pages, don't have trouble with protocol, and my BB is too old to pinch zoom, so those are right out.

The list of Blackberry shortcuts in Help is incomplete. There are the following additional shortcuts that aren't listed:
d - zoom in/out?
e - scroll up
w - select
x - scroll down
C, j, l, m, n, p, q and v don't do anything, so plenty of spares for more things. I've only been using Opera Mini for a few days, but the shortcuts I'm missing most are tab controls. There should at least be an equivalent Blackberry shortcut for every Opera shortcut. The fact that there isn't makes me wonder if there are any Opera Mini developers using Blackberries.
I disagree with the suggestion above to use Del to close tabs. I think it would be too easy to accidentally press it while fiddling around editing textboxes.
While on the subject of closing tabs, the only way I know to do that is to press the Menu key, scroll up to the tab controls at the top, press Menu again, then select Close Tab with the trackpad button. It would be nice if Close Tab could be selected with the Menu button, so it just requires two presses of the same button. Lots of the native OS6 Blackberry menus allow that (a welcome change from previous OSs), so it would be nice to be consistent in 3rd party apps.
I still hate the cursor wrapping in menus.
How can i get Opera Mini 6.1 back? there is no link to it anywhere?

I purchased 10MB of data bundles from Vodacom to check out the data usage feature on my Nokia S40 phone. I just finished the bundle and this calculator says I used 5.1 MB on my total sessions. I think YOU should add TOTAL SESSIONS X 2(times 2) on your code for accurate results. Otherwise nice feature!

Have you gotten Opera Mini to work through BIS ? I cannot, it just uses normal data and runs my bill up. I need to figure out how to make it use BIS.
I just hope the next opera mini comes with the ability to choose bis or tcp.

I have always assumed that, like some other apps, OM follows some kind of standard connection protocol and first looks for BIS-B, if it's not available it looks for TCP, and if TCP is also not available, it looks for WAP. Here is a screenshot from connection test of Bloomberg Mobile app:

Is there a way to check somewhere in the BlackBerry what connection OM is currently using?

I have read online that Opera mini added BIS support back in like version 4.x or 5.x or something, I forgot which.
Another problem on sensor screen is minimising of long lists. To expand you should press the "+" button, but it is so tiny (about 1 square millimeter) that it takes sometomes 10 or even more efforts to press it. Please make the function of long list's minimising optional like it was on 4.* versions IIRC or make the "+" button dramatically bigger.
Thanks in advance

(Copied from http://my.opera.com/community/forums/topic.dml?id=1149742 ):
Some users are having problems connecting with BIS with Opera Mini 6.5, and we are currently investigating this. This has only been reported on devices that run BlackBerry OS 6 or newer. We will of course provide an update when we've solved the problem, but in the meantime you can download the version for BlackBerry OS 4.7 from http://www.opera.com/mobile/download/versions/ and install it over USB from your PC. The 4.7 version unfortunately doesn't support pinch zooming.

!
thank you very very much. i can now stop using operamini4.x and go back to HTTP multi-tab browsing without having to pay for a permanent socket connection. very pleased indeed.
1. Search option while typing address.
2. HTTP connection. Sometimes changes from Socket to Http as the older option is now replaced. Http connection is very slower like takes half minute to load few kbs while socket takes a second or two for same data. This is very annoying issue in Nokia phones supporting only jars.

Do you know the reason? Or any such a problem reported till now?
I try to use Opera min on my Blackberry "Torch" but I'm facing problem of connection and it's asking me to check my network configuration.
I'm sure that i well configured the APN and it can works well using an other browser like "BOLT".
Could you help lease since I don't really appreciate the "BOLT" browser.
Regards,
Sami
I did exactelly what you said. With my Blackberry connected on WIFI I putted http://m.opera.com in my BB browser and I downloaded the Opera mini. Then it was installed.
Please not I'm trying to connect to internet with Opera mini using an APN other than the BlackBerry APN. which works with other brower.
With Opera I have problem of connection.
I have the OS 7 in my torch.
Regars,
Sami

My WhatsApp application that also uses data is working fine. Also I managed to send this message using my browser and apn settings.
How do I make Opera Mini use my APN and not BIS settings?

The App works slow but fine, nothing to worry. But I have a problem. I'm not able to use other APN even if I select a diffrent APN to connect.
The mobile has "Java Settings" global config menu to select which APN will connect to when using a Java Application. This setting affects all Java Apps on the Phone.
The default APN is, for saying, INTERNET_DEFAULT APN, and It came with the phone and is not editable.
I've added a new one, "SPECIAL_SERVICE APN".
The other Java Applications use the "SPECIAL_SERVICE APN" when configure that APN in the Java Settings.
But Specifically, Opera Mini, is not taking that, it keeps connecting into the "INTERNET_DEFAULT APN".
I've check the Advanced options in Opera, but nothing helps.
Do you have any Idea?
It seems Opera Mini only takes APN which come with factory defaults, and not User Configred APN's
