Translate 1.5 extension not working

For the last 2 weeks my Translate extension has suddenly stopped working - not only on my pc but on my wife's as well. The same with the opera browser on the office's pc. I've uninstalled and re-installed the extension but with the same result ie "Oh dear! The translation can't be completed". Can anyone advise me on how to fix this? (Java script is enabled etc.)
