Opera Mini 6.5 for iOS

It's been some time since the last release. We skipped version 6.1 and went directly to 6.5.

Here's the changelog:
  • Data usage meter:
See approximated amount of data you saved thanks to Opera Mini. Go to Help|Data Usage.
Tip: Decrease the image quality to get even better results (Settings|Image quality).
  • Support for predictive typing:
Start typing in google search box to get suggestions (be sure to have Settings|Advanced|Protocol configured as Socket/HTTP).
  • Auto-correction and spell checking:
Make sure you have it configured in system settings (Settings|General|Keyboard).
  • Bookmark star in URL field:
No need to dive into menus to bookmark interesting page. Just click the star select "Add to Bookmarks" and it's ready.
  • No more checkerboard:
We have removed checkerboard completely. Instead Opera Mini paints approximated content even during very fast scrolling.
  • Share by email:
It's possible to share interesting page also via email.
  • Improved text selection:
Enjoy convenient way of selecting text.
  • Improved compression:
To limit data traffic even further Opera Mini added support for WebP images. This means pages will load faster on congested networks.

You can download Opera Mini 6.5 from AppStore.
When reporting bugs use our bug wizzard.

Thanks and enjoy!

Note: There were some issues with AppStore today (02/Nov/2011)- sometimes previous version (6.0.1) was shown instead of 6.5.

I just "upgraded" Opera Mini to version 6.5 on my iPhone 3GS and it no longer works. I get the "Connection Failed" message every time I try to use it. It worked fine before the "upgrade" and Safari still works fine, so it isn't a network settings issue. I've tried turning the phone off and on, but it doesn't make a difference.

Same here. I also have a 3GS running iOS 5 and OM 6.5 isn't working: it simply shows a "Connection Failed" message and asks me to check my settings.

Safari is fine and so are all other, Internet -enabled apps.

Edit: Bug logged with #152155. Please allow us to revert to to 6.0.x.

Thanks for info. Couple of ideas and questions:
* did you try clean install (remove mini before install)?
* you can try fiddling with network settings in advanced options?
* does it fail over wifi or cellular network?
* is that official iOS or a modification?

* No, I did not. I won't do that if it will destroy my bookmarks, saved pages etc.
* Which settings? I haven't changed anything since it worked with the previous version of Opera Mini.
* It failed over both wifi and 3G
* Official iOS

Wrong translation in Opera Mini 6.5 Spanish. Saved Data is not "Datos Guardados" in this case but "Datos Ahorrados"

Can someone tell me what the Text Wrapping setting is supposed to do?

It does not reflow the text when a web page is zoomed in.

No it doesn't do reflow when zooming. However it layouts text in narrow columns for more convenient reading. Open some article from bbc.co.uk and try this setting. You'll see that text layout is different. Please note that when you have "Text Wrapping" overall page layout could be broken.

I have just downloaded it and installed on iPad. Turned on opera link, it synced my speed dial but not my bookmarks. I have checked and they are available in my profile on my.opera.com but for some reason not getting synced to iPad. Out it on bugs list, let's see .

Opera Mini doesn't sync all bookmarks - only those in Opera Mini folder - in desktop Opera it has different icon. In this way you're in control what goes to your device.

So, in other words, I can not sync my desktop icons to my Ipod touch. Correct? I can not seem to move any bookmarks into the Mini folder in My Opera and nothing happens when I do a sync the normal way.

I don't get it. When I click on the Mini Bookmark folder it sends me to a link to download Opera to my desktop computer but I already have Opera on my other computers.

What am I missing here?

This page should help you with configuration: http://www.opera.com/browser/tutorials/link/

There's also useful section with frequently asked questions, it should cover your doubts as well.

Thanks. I have done all that is suggested. The desktop bookmarks have been moved into the Opera Mini folder on my desktop computer's bookmark folder. It has synced with my laptop and shows up in My Opera.

What doesn't happen: the bookmarks do not show up in Opera Mini in my Ipod touch. Opera Link is enabled on the IPod.

So, I still don't have any bookmarks in Opera Mini.

What now?

PROBLEM SOLVED.

After waiting days to see if Opera Mini on my Ipod would sync with my desktop, laptop, and two associated virtual machines, I finally logged OUT of My Opera on my Ipod and then logged in again. Opera on the Ipod immediately synced.

Now that that's over, it would be nice if Opera Mini had way to make the Bookmark Bar that I have on my full versions available in the same order that I have them on my desktops. I can get to them by renaming "Links" in the Bookmark folder to put it at the top, but I can't rearrange them in the order I prefer.
